SS M6 has a money shift safety

I just traded in my 2010 SS A6 for a 2011 SS M6. When I was doing 60 mph I put and kept my foot on the clutch and played with the shifter see what gears the car would go in. The trans would not lock into first gear or reverse, no matter how hard you tried. I think that was a good idea for GM in put that safety on. It prevents an accidental "money shift" that would damage or destroy the engine and trans by accidentally shifting into a wrong gear when going at a high speed.

That's good to know. I wouldn't have had the b*lls to try this though!

Reverse is locked out by a solenoid and gate. First just wouldn't go in because the syncros couldn't spin it up that fast. Not a good idea to try for first at that speed, kinda rough on the syncros and other bits.

I'm confused. You have an A6, but you are talking about a M6? And what does money shift mean?

lol i had an 88 Honda Civic 5-speed that you could put in reverse while doing 70...friend of mine was driving it...luckily he noticed he was in reverse and did not let the clutch out. he was used to driving a 4-speed and thought he was in 3rd even tho he was in 5th...i can only imagine the carnage that would have caused..

That's not the experience I had. While drag racing at the track, I went to bang 3rd and the tranny gave me 1st. I was probably going around 75 or so. The rear felt like it almost locked up, rpm's shot up and the tires chattered and got squirely. Definitely a pucker experience. I've also had the notorious grinding when trying to go into 2nd.
