Tracking.. Need Advice. - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

So.. I preordered two weeks ago. Put a deposit down.. the whole bit.
Next day, I shot an e-mail off to my sales guy explaining how pre-order purchasers here have been tracking their cars with the codes:

1100 = Preliminary Order
2000 = Accepted By GM
2500 = Preferenced
3000 = Accepted By Production Control
3100 = Sequenced
3300 = Scheduled For Production
3400 = Broadcast
3800 = Produced
4150 = Invoiced
4200 = Shipped
5000 = Delivered To Dealer
6000 = Delivered To Customer

With this info, I asked for a work order number.
So anyway, two days ago, with a little phone tag, and a busy schedule, we finally chatted and he said that a work order number hadn't been issued yet, but he would contact me as soon as one was put together.

My question, and maybe I'm misunderstanding this whole thing... but is the work order number issued as soon as I put the order in with the dealership and lay a deposit?

I need a specific answer here fellas (and ladies) before I go on attack to the sales guy. Understand that I'm not in a hurry, and not expecting recievership til late August... but could really use a non-beat around the bush answer.

Not necessarily. Some dealers only have one person who enters orders and they may enter them all in on one day (Tuesdays for example). So give them a little time before you jump all over them.

I ordered on a thursday and my dealer said they put orders in on monday.....got my order number monday afternoon. 2 weeks would seem long to me but i'm no expert on the process.

Very good question.. All I took out of the dealership with me..was the contract I signed.. I have no idea how to track the work order..

When the dealer places the order, a build sheet is printed from the "Order Workbench".

This sheet will have your name, and the order # on it.. # is confusing because most are all letters, not #'s.

It also lists all the options you ordered, etc. Some guys on the forum have a copy of this - some don't. It says right on it that it is GM confidential, so I guess some dealers won't release a copy.

If they don't have an order # for you after asking about the workbench, I would think it means they haven't placed your order!

Finally got the tracking number, and the order is at 1100! lol

Your dealer can track it, and tell you where it is.

In Canada, you can also call 1-800-GMDRIVE, and I believe they can give you an update - they have access to a resource that can give you an update.

This will tell you where you are - 1100, 3000, etc.

well i just found out that I am at 1100 too and there are 3 people ahead of me (from the allocations at that same dealership I'm guessing.) I'm pretty happy with that for now - something is better than nothing...
Ask me how I feel if I am still at 1100 in a few weeks lol!

got mine today. NHMTT4. Phoned GM and their telling me bill date is June 29.... so it will arrive at dealer ship two weeks after that is that correct ?
