Costco Microfiber towels - opinions

Anyone trust these towels on the outside of their car, or are they only good for interior cleaning? These are those 16x16 yellow towels that come in a 36 pack for like $20 from Detailers Performance. They are a bit thin, and was wondering if anyone trusts using these towels on their car?

Friends don't let friends use Costco towels

Autopia or autogeek depending on current sales

Low-grade microfiber towels should only be used to clean the soles of your shoes!

The CD Test is a dead giveaway. Take a CD to the store with you and rub the back side of it against any of the towels that you may be contemplating on purchasing. The results will be startling, I can assure you. If those towels scratch a CD, just imagine how much damage they can inflict on your paint!

All towels will scratch a cd. The cd test is only useful as a comparative test, not an absolute one.

And those cheap towels are good for engine bays, wheels, tires, etc.

I get my mf towels from pakshak. I do use the Costco towels on my wheels and engine areas.

I'll have to respectfully disagree with you on this one. Adam's MF towels don't scratch and pass the CD test with flying colors.

I will agree with you that other towels have a purpose for dirty jobs, but this thread was in regard to towels that are safe for the outside of the car...which I assume means the OP's paint.

I will take the test and see for myself, as I bought a few MF's from autogeek that were not cheap. One side of the cd will be from the cheap Costco, and the other side from AG. If they both scratch the CD, then Adams it is!

I tested out the Gold Plush Jr. from AG. I picked up a 3 pack for 12.99 the other day.

I just tested out both towels. I first sprayed the entire CD with cleaner, and cleaned one half with the AG towel and the other half with Costco's.

I will say that the Costco towel did scratch the CD, but it was barely visible to the naked eye. I could not even take a picture of it as it would never show on camera. The AG towel on the other hand did not sctach the CD at all, but did leave more lint surprisingly than the Costco towel.

I might have to try Adams in the near future.
