Not nice neighbors
I'm a new stick driver living near the NYC area. I believe if I'm going to get a Camaro that I would have to get it in stick. Why? It's a Camaro!
Took out Logan (name of my car) to practice. Neighbor #1 said, "Your car doesn't sound good." It's because I'm still learning and I'm coming into the carport really slow so I dont run you over. I think I was going too slow for 1st gear. He continued to criticize the sound then said "I don't know anything about THAT car so forget I said anything" Later that night, Logan and I was going out again to practice. Neighbor #2 started with me too. "Why did you get a stick, why did you get that car, you're going to roll back on someone, I wouldn't get that car around here, my suv has a switch to shift and that's better." I was so discouraged that I was going to go back inside but I went out anyway. Yes I did stall. True I stumbled with shifting. However I'm trying and one day I'm going to sit in city traffic and be okay with it. I'm pretty bummed out though. I can't seem to get the hang of it. Neighbors didnt help either. :( |

Dont be bummed out. They are just jealous of your badass car. Youll get the hang of it. Just keep practicing. Then you can get some long tube headers and a badass exhaust and really piss them off for giving you a hard time.

I bet your neighbors drive caravans, ignore them and enjoy your SS, you will get the hang of it very quickly.

Like riding a bike. Took you a while to learn, but now, you just get on and ride and don't even think about it. Soon, you will be shifting and not even thinking about it. Keep go'n. You'll make it.

i learned stick in week tops, give u a 3 - 4 days and u will be driving in traffic, stalling will still occur for couple months , but you will learn stick well and nearly perfect in a year.

Just go for a long drive in the country side , just to get to know Logan one on one , before you know your freaking neighbors will be saying something like this NO FREAKING WAY , this guy is kicking ass , WTH happen , just nob to then and smile , if they wave , wave back but with only one finger .

Don't let them discourage you. It takes practice, and soon you'll get the hang of it.

Dont get bummed. It took me a while to get comfortable with driving stick. But now I pretty much don't stall. Took about 5 months till I was confident on the roads and such. Also I just taught someone how to drive stick shift and about a week later they were good to go

I've been driving a stick for 20 years and still stall out from time to time (don't tell anyone).

I knew I can count on all of you to make me feel better. Nice of you to share your experiences. I thought I'm suppose to stop stalling already. Everyone I talked to said they were good within two weeks. I'm going on 4 weeks.
Neighbor #1 has a dirty huge old truck. Neighbor #2 has a Highlander? and a beat up dirty van (to haul food). Gross. I was told to rev the engines a couple of times before pulling out. This way it vibrates throughout the carport reminding them of my cool car. |

Don't worry bro, you'll get it. Just keep trying and when you do get it you'll be glad you stuck with it.
