Well roll your windows down next time you see a cop...

If you tint your front windshield your screwed.

One other thing, I can not imagine wanting a tinted from window. I hated the side glass tint on the WS6 at night because you could not see out. I can not imagine darkening the windshield at all.

I really don't get why you think it was so dangerous for him to make a u turn and drive on the shoulder. the lights and sirens pretty much clear people out of the path. also, cops get extensive driving training for all kinds of situation. now if he were going 60 MPH to catch up with you that might be different. but moving along at a reasonable speed with his lights and sirens on to let everyone know where he is hardly sounds reckless or dangerous to me.

Exactly. I have not been able to understand how it can be thought that the officer did something wrong. He saw a violation and he enforced the law. It's what we pay him to do.

I would think that going in and "filing a complaint" would only make you look foolish. The officer didn't do anything wrong. As others have suggested, go in and get the legal tinting on your windows, do not tint the windshield, and go see if by taking action and acting professional about it, if the court will dismiss it like a "fix it ticket."

The guy potentially endangered lives or property by stopping traffic and driving alongside vehicles in a shoulder not meant for driving (based on the OPs description of the event). All of this to penalize some one for doing something to their vehicle that doesn't create unsafe road conditions for other drivers. What the officer did was more reckless on the roads than the OP, however the law permits him to disregard traffic laws "when his lights are on".

I wasn't there, and neither were you, so don't speculate on how safe or unsafe it actually was.

If it truly was a potentially unsafe situation, the officer did more harm than good by trying to stop the OP from having tint.

Here's an interesting perspective to consider - It's illegal to have any license plate ornaments or covers that block any of the words on the plate (state name, state motto, etc.) even if the actual plate number is completely visible. Would you justify what may be construed as reckless driving by a cop for this kind of traffic stop as well? No lives are in danger whatsoever (which is the prevailing argument for tint vs cops).

Since the cop was coming at you, you now know that obvious windshield tint is considered a big "no-no" by the local revenuers. Therefore, see if you can get back to the tint shop to get legal before you get tagged again. Then see if your county has a deferral program for this offense. Sign the papers and pay The Man. Keep your nose clean during the Agreement period.

Based on some of the responses, you folks must never take your car out of third gear.

Sometimes I wonder if it's worth putting the life of a civilian (and the officer but more so the civilian as they didn't sign on for the dangerous job of being a police officer) in danger for a traffic stop for minor things like a window tint violation.

how would you like someone making a formal complaint to your employer when you were only doing your job. This goes in his employment file and will follow him through his entire career.

Some of you people don't get it... I have no problem with getting the ticket. I bought the car with the tint that's on it and have been driving for over a year with it with absolutely no other issues at all from any other cops. Sure, it's illegal tint and I got a ticket I don't care about that. It's the lengths that the officer went through to give me the ticket (when the offense isn't even endangering myself or anyone else like speeding in a school zone would be) that pissed me off. If he was just driving behind me and pulled me over, sure no problem I deserve the ticket... but making a u-turn in an active school zone and driving along the shoulder to pass several vehicles only to issue a non-life threatening illegal tint ticket is completely irrational. There were kids walking and parents/cars everywhere. I'm not going to make a complaint or anything that's taking it a little far....
