IMPORTANT LASER QUESTION
How common is laser? (specifically percentage wise)
For myself and other members on the thread, how safe are we just having radar? Is laser jamming necessary? Thanks for everyones time

A laser detector will do you no good. You need a laser jammer or scrambler.

It got me at 85mph once - in a remote area of Interstate in VT. Luckily I had slowed down from 100+ to pass a BMW, without blowing his doors off.
Dude was hidden in the median trees, standing, and popped out at the last second and nailed me. Laser detector sounded, but there was no laser until the last moment. Defenseless. |

The only places I've been that still just use radar is the small back wood towns. Most states highway patrol have switched to using just Lidar as well as most major cities and practically everywhere else uses a combination of the 2. |

I would dissagree. I know is Missouri it's not used much at all. I would bet most are still using radar.

Yeah, detector tells you that you already got caught when going against laser. If you want laser protection, you need a good laser jammer.

haha thanks leopard...and as can be seen ^...there is huge debate about this.
Yes, lidar is becoming more popular, but my google searches have shown that its only about 5 percent utilized-not sure how old the data was though.

I am an officer in Ohio and almost exclusively use laser. Just remember if i stop you and see a radar/laser detector then you will get a ticket. The reason is, I consider it a game at that point. You try to see how fast you can go and not get caught, and I try to see how fast I can catch you going.
I haven't seen any Laser jammers that actually work (not sure about radar). I had a friend that bought two different "jamming" units and neither one really worked. Best thing you can do is reduce the reflectivity of your car. Cars without front plates are harder to clock than cars with plates (but not impossible). Remember your headlights, windshield, and any flat surface will reflect the laser back. Dirty cars are harder to track than clean. Also for some reason light colored metalic cars reflect better than dark cars. Cloth bra's do cut way down on the range of the laser. So for us Camaro owners unfortunately we all like to have them clean, with our personalized plates, and the front end is pretty flat. Also remember the effective distance of a laser unit. The newer laser units are good for about 2000 feet. The older laser units are good to up to 4500 feet even though I have never personally been able to get a reading that far. With that said....good luck and let the games begin. P.s. remember that owning radar jammer is illegal in every state under federal law and also by state law in several states. Laser jammers are only illegal in 9 states so far.

Commits weekly crime
|
Every time I've been hit by laser, I've been doing the speed limit or close to it (+3 to 5mph). I have gotten blips on my Passport which I think were from other cars ahead of me getting lazed though. Last time this happened, it was on a very long straightaway, and it kept going off every 2-3 seconds for about a second. I was behind another car, so I'm pretty sure he was nailing people in the left lane, and I was in the center lane.
That being said...if you're speeding, they can nail you. I don't know how well the jammers work, or if they can tell they are being jammed. Both tickets I've gotten, however, my radar never went off. I have POP enabled, so though it might have been that, I'm not sure....would think the detector would go off for that.

Second, a ticket for what? It is not illegal to own a radar/laser detector in the state of Ohio. -Funk |

I assume he means you'll get a ticket for whatever he stopped you for... and if he doesn't see a detector/jammer you MIGHT get a warning.
