Tires

Does anyone know whether the production Z28 has been run on 19" racing slicks instead of the Trofeos?

I agree with Harry; I can't wait to see the lap times from a Z/28 in professional hands with racing slicks...

As of March 4th, no it had not. After that unknown. Traction controls and ABS are likely to work fine with slicks, and I look forward to conducting my own tests Hope that helps?

I was thinking that whilst the stock setup on the Trofeos is admirable, a more useable option is two sets of wheels, one with street tyres and one with racing slicks.

I'm assuming this will give me the best of both worlds.

Well with Trofeos at least you can drive to the track. Slicks = trailer IMO.

But yeah slicks would be a blast to run now and again.

At the cost of Trofeos, if I were going to daily drive this thing to any degree, I'd consider using other Pirellis or another good summer tire and use the Trofeos for my occasional track day. I know it was developed for the Trafeos, but when you're going to get only a few thousand miles to the set??????

You're going to essentially burn up the original set of tires during the "recommended" 1500 mile breakin procedure. Keeping revs below 4000, etc. I think I'm going with Michelin PSS's on the original wheels when the Trofeo's wear out. Then have a set of CCW wheels and slicks for the track. Just leave the CCW's at the track garage.

Was thinking the Pirelli racing slick

http://www.pirelli.com/tyre/gb/en/mo...eet/slick.html

They do a 305 in a 19in

If my maths are correct, the slick is 2" bigger diameter than OE Trofeo's and 1" bigger than a 315/30-19" Hoosier R6. My current thought is to go with the R6 which gains me .4" section width over the Trofeos. I can't immediately find the section width of the P slicks.

We need to have a good look at the wheel well and what kind of clearance there is work with.

Putting this thing on either R6 or slicks and you are going to go kill most anything on the track even in the hands of a hamfisted moron. Crazy!

I don't think sticky rubber is a cure for hamfisted morons.

I've smoked those guys in a miata at TWS.

But it should prove a much more user friendly rig than most any 911, with its weight balance and grip.

you shouldn't have any issues with wheel well clearance. wheel/tire to strut clearance is where it will be tightest.

But a 2" bigger diameter with those slicks will kill your gearing and add more weight where its the worst, at the outer circumference. I think Hooters are the better choice.
