Well, It's official,
I'm stuck on the rig for the next four or so more weeks, and I've been in Brazil for three already... I am staying on the rig for the float out of country and will be able to leave the rig when we reach Trinidad... We are scheduled to leave on or about the 29th, though with the weather the way it is, thats looking doubtful... Once we leave here, it's at least three weeks to Trinidad. I'll see everyone in the San Antonio / Austin area around the end of August...

"properly referred to as a tow bridle to absorb the differential shock loads... There are also dry tow vessels... I'll see if I can find a few pics and post them up... These vessels flood down, (basically they sink... in a controlled situation most of the time) and the rig is floated over them, and then they unsink, (is that a word?) and the rig is then high and dry... Believe me, these mofo's are some seriously big ships... They are Post PanaMax Vessels, or ships too big for the Panama Canal...

And I assume weather has to be pretty perfect for this operation as well? What happens with rough seas like the pictures you posted before? And lastly, PEOPLE ARE STILL ON THE RIG when this happens?????? Holy crap!

Too long to explain here... without writing a novel... 2-Drillers, whatever... 2-Crane ops, same thing 1-Asst Driller, nothing of value... other than to drive the rest of us crazy... entertainment value is something I guess...OMG, if you ever get the chance to meet "Cut-off" he's a hoot... 1-Safety Rep... Medic, and otherwise useless... I used to be one so I can say that with complete confidence... and if we are unlucky, we will have a skeleton crew of catering crew along... Most any of us can cook way better than the average catering hand... We have to eat it, so we care... They can put crap on the line for us and cook something decent for themselves in the back... If they absolutely had to eat what we do, it would be better... As far as I'm concerned, give us a BR hand to make the beds and wash the clothes and we'll cook for ourselves... Quote:

I'd say that sucks that you are gone the next three weeks....
But.... With overtime like that, CONGRATS!!!  Nah...I know there comes a time when no matter how much you are getting paid, you just need a break for your sanity. I'm putting in a couple hours a day right now and will keep going as much as they let me. And, when they ask for people to stay late, I usually get the gig. I'm a worker...I take my calls and knock out as many as I can. The more calls I get taken care of, the happier the higher ups are. They don't like calls holding. I don't BS either...give me the call...get me there...find a solution...get'er done and get back in service. So many others just sit...and hold calls....or take their time writing the calls and others who want to get everything taken care of so they can be free to do other stuff don't get to. So, you get workers and non-workers. While we all know who the slugs are, nothing is really done about them. I just can't wait until I'm one of the higher ups so I can start doing something more about it...other than bitching. Anyway...getting off on a tangent. Yep...I'd jump at the OT as well. Stinks that can't really sit back and breathe, though. |
