CAI's intake installed... cosmetically, i blew it

So i'm really really smart...

... and i just wanted to whine/ give any future installers a heads up. I was installing my CAI intake, putting on the lid, and one of the little screws slipped and my screw driver went flying across the glass screen and put a scratch across it. Obviously not a huge deal to some, but just the fact that i know it's there because of that stupid little screw slipping really makes me mad

So just be careful while putting on the lid and messing with those little annoying spring loaded screws.... If you're not careful they'll spring trap your screw driver into putting an annoying scratch into your intakes glass top.

Ps. I know this is my fault and not trying to hate on CAI at all. It's a great intake, great quality, i'm just mad that the spring loaded screw slipped and caused me to scratch the sh!t out of the lid.

This is obviously a really heartbreaking situation for me, so any condolences would be greatly appreciated.

Picture doesn't give it justice..

I'm guessing this incident will result in a major HP loss too.

That kind of chit gets to me too. I can do a header install without scratching something and the dealer cant check my wiper fluid without scratching something :(

I think its nothing more than plexi glass. Remove the plexi glass and find someone who can cut you a new one using the old one as a template. Shouldn't cost to much.

Maybe it will buff out? Send Bill @ CAI an email, I'm sure they wouldn't have a problem selling or maybe even giving you a new window.

I had this exact thing happen to me with my install. Definitely send bill an email. I emailed him and explained what happened, and he sent me a window replacement no questions asked. He is one hell of a guy and backs his products!

try windex and steel wool....believe it or not it takes scratches out of windshields....just spray a good amount of windex on the glass and buff away with steal wool....

or maybe try that chip fix kit they sale at the store, maybe you can use that.

Lowes or Home Depot may have a polishing kit that comes with different clay bars, i have polish plexi before. just wet sand with light grit sand paper and use the red clay bar and a buff wheel should knock it out.

Ask the guys at CAI how to get a new one. There was a recent thread about someone's intake and how the glass became unglued from the inside of the lid and fell onto the filter. They sent him a new one so I'm sure it's possible if it bothers you that much.

Thanks for feeling my pain you guys haha. It actually was worse before the picture, that was after I had rubbed a compound on it. I'll for sure send Bill@ CAI an email once I track him down on here.

Lots of good advice though.
