yup the ls3 is way louder than the l99, the dealer had both on next to eachother and you could tell who was louder

Yes it does the LS3 has more of a rumble then the L99 due to that fact the L99 has a big muffler in the middle of the car as opposed to LS3 with two small resonators in the middle

I'd imagine that they are similar, but the only way to know for sure is by listening to sound clips of each with both having the same exhaust setup.

straight pipes take all that out though right? So, they should sound the same?

I wish there was some Camaros here in RI with changed exhaust systems, I am so undecided on which exhaust system to get, I want something that is way louder than the factory, I know SLP Loudmouth is very loud, but it shows axle back, I want a cat back system, I figure the Flowmaster cat back system must be one of the loudest, but I want to here some exhaust systems in person.

I've heard them both and yes they sound different. THe LS3 when you step on it has a distinct growl that the auto V8 lacks. The V8 auto still sounds mean enough for most though so I wouldn't make this an issue of buying it or not.

Auto. AFM isn't that big of a deal. When I'm just cruising on the highway, I keep them closed. If open, it sounds like a harley. Not bad, just different.
