I've never owned a car like this before...
I owned four Silverados in a row before this car. I've always been a truck kind of guy, but lately it seems like I don't even use them for what they're for - so I threw in the towel (for the time being) and boy am I glad I did!
It's crazy how almost every person you drive by stares at your car. Yesterday, it really hit home though. When I pulled in the driveway after getting home from work, I sat in the car and finished what I was listening to on the radio. As I got out, my neighbor and his son (who drives a Black Camaro LT) were standing at the end of the driveway. "I thought I heard your car so I ran out here to see if I could take a look!" What a great feeling. He asked if I'd start it so of course I did. The look on their faces was priceless. I would imagine it was probably akin to what mine looked like when I heard it start for the first time. The other thing that cracks me up is people constantly trying to race me (some in futility, some with a fighting chance up until this point). Before I even got it home from the dealership I had some guy in a GT Mustang messing with me. That was funny. Then, I was taking somebody for a ride in it that evening, and some guy on like a GSXR 600 or something was trying to race me from a light. I actually messed with him a bit and I think he was surprised that this 4000+ lb car was actually keeping up with him... Anyway, just wanted to share a couple of my experiences thus far, and proclaim my love for my ZL1. |

Definately an attention getter. I had an enjoyable conversation with the AC repairman about the ZL1 when he saw it in my garage yesterday. Its nice to talk to someone who's familiar with the car. The downside is I was paying him by the hour.

It is surprising as to how many people are aware of the ZL1. Everytime I get out of mine someone says "That's the big boy with the supercharger, right?" (or something along those lines).
I am in a local car club and the guys with the older muscle cars are getting very tired of the ZL1 getting all of the attention at the cruise in and shows. Someone even made a motion to deduct points from "newer" cars at the last meeting. No doubt it was aimed at me. No biggie to me. I dont need a trophy to know I am driving one of the most remarkable vehicles ever built.

I was driving mine around my home town on the Friday of the weekend we have our yearly show and shine. I was waved into the lot all the show cars were on and asked to park awhile. Had about 30 people around the car in 10 minutes. Pretty much everyone of them telling me about the first time they saw my car in town. As it would happen a local company had a mobile chassis dyno on the lot and asked if I'd consider running my car. I said why not, as I pulled the car toward the dyno a LARGE crowd started to form. They did 2 pulls, it was 27C and 30% humidity and the car still pulled 490 RWHP/470RWTQ. I've got kind of a cool story with my car to. It came off the assembly line at 4:32 on may 3 ..... My 41st birthday. I always wanted a badass black camaro, almost bought a 91 Z28 1LE when I was 20 but could not afford insurance and had to pass. Then marriage and 4 kids killed any camaro plans for a while, finally the timing was right and just my luck Chevy was producing the BADDEST CAMARO EVER!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations! The ZL1 is an awesome car. And you are so right about the looks people give you...it's like nothing they have ever seen before. So glad real muscle cars are making a come back. And yes, this is one wife the loves the Camaro's as much (maybe even more!) as my husband!!

Thank you guys for producing such an BAD ASS car. The one I got #992 was produced on my birthday. I'll never be able to part with it. I know it sucks for a lot of people trying to get their hands on one, especially in Canada, but I like having the only one around my area. Does that make me a bad person????? I was offered 10000 dollars cash over what I paid if I'd give the car up the day it hit the dealership, I just said no thanks and turned and walked away!!!!
