It's just a cell phone that does a lot of cool stuff. It can be activated any time. I think I pay about $150/yr

If you're using On* then you know its more than a cell service, although that is the most popular service that they offer. There is the turn by turn, vehicle diagnostic, remote unlock, crash reporting, and a lot of others. And once a car has the hardware, it can be activated at any time.

I have been wondering if I were to let an On* subscription expire, then the vehicle were to be stolen, could I subscribe to have the vehicle found?

In a similar vain, if I let the subscription lapse and I lock my keys in, can I re-subscribe to have them unlock the doors? They should offer a per-use fee.

I believe the answers would be NO and NO. Do you think they would have allowed you to bump up your life insurance if you made an in flight call from flight 93?

That's different. When the flight goes down, I (or my wife) gets more money. If I have to subscribe and pay them to re-activate, they get more money and all I get is my doors unlocked. Not like I get $1M right after they unlock the doors.

Those are some of the "cool things" I was talking about. Didn't mean to down play at all. Onstar has been convenient for me a couple times.

I'm pretty sure if you called Onstar, give them your credit card info to reactivate, you could then ask them for help.

If your home phone or electric is cut off and you then pay to turn it back on , you get full service back. As long as they have their money.........
