If a part is replaced "under warranty" for a friend of someone else for $$$$ the the dealer has to hold onto that part for a period of time to see if GM is going to issue a call back for it.

If Gm calls for the part to be returned for a warranty repair and the dealer cannot produce it then the dealer is backflagged for the entire warranty repair cost of the part plus the service departments labor.

Laymans terms: No way in hell am I gonna sell you a part for cash and then commit warrany fraud by submitting it to GM.

I think this will help the Z/28 maintain a better value accompanied with a smaller depreciation (maybe) but will in no way increase value after initial purchase. I agree with others, the Z/28 will be cloned because the aftermarket will gladly step up to the plate and fill in the gaps.

I would think with a NEW production car that there would be a legal issue with NOT making parts avail.

Hmmm no suspension parts on the list. Odd
Looks like mainly all just appearance parts.

I was happy to read this bulletin yesterday! I think the car should remain unique, and NO clones allowed. I see way too many V6 SS cars running around now anyway

As a diehard Bowtie Guy, who has owned a part-restricted 2000 SS Y2Y? car (special content), and have a Z/28 on the way, I don't agree with this policy.

1) This is not a StarWars Action Figure Collectible. This car should raced, not collected. What is the point of this car if not raced?

2) It makes it a PITA to find and order parts, especially on-line.

3) Those who want the suspension, brakes, etc, for racing should be allowed access.

4) Cloning cars is going to happen no matter what. It will never have the correct VIN or option codes. And if it's anything other than an appearance package, it would cost more to build one from scratch than buy the real McCoy.

5) GM makes money selling these parts. If you want cheaper Z/28 cars in the future, or exotic parts, you need to sell lots of them.

Restricted parts on special models only benefits collectors.

All excellent insights, completely agree. I'm not a believer in garage queen collectable cars. I sincerely hope many Z/28 owners drive them the way they are meant to be driven.

I doubt too many would actually clone a Z, but plenty of us enjoy modding our cars. I'd like to get my hands on the fender flares and front splitter. Typically aftermarket stuff is not as high quality or truly engineered and optimized as OEM parts.

You know they won't. I bet 75% become garage queens.

This is kind of my thoughts.
It was truly designed to be a race car and if a person happens to get some damage it would then become a waiting game to get a dealer to even order the parts since most won't even know how. Then you will need to wait for the GM warehouse to ship to the dealer. This is a problem if you need parts ASAP

This is great for investors, but sucks for the rest of us. Not in the "true" spirit of the Z/28 as a serious car.

Let's not forget corporations are people.

It's going to be pretty easy to spot a "clone" when purchasing a used car. They chopped up the wiring harness. Pull a panel anywhere, and you'll be able to tell. Well, unless they disassembled the car and replaced the whole harness. Not exactly cost effective.
