Tires for Zl1
Hai everyone.
My current tires are almost shot. Did about 32k on them. The OEM goodyear are terrible when it rains and the TC has to work overtime to keep the car at least in a straight line. Have searched in the local stores for available tires. OEM goodyear are around 1750$ per piece. They are way overpriced in dubai and are pretty rare to get. Pirelli also makes OEM sizes, but has anyone tried them. How are they when compared to the goodyears. Also from an other thread saw people using 315 section michelins on the rear and 295 front. How much of a change have u noticed with those combinations. Over here nittos are more famously used for camaros. Has anyone tried them. Can get goodyears at a much lower price online, but just want to know wheather opting for another brand of tire wld improve the handling of the car. Last edited by manumathew; 05-04-2014 at 01:49 AM. Michelin Pilot SS on mine. 295/315 made a huge difference for the better in handling. No second choice...just Michelins!

I just did the same a few weeks ago, what a difference! Hasn't warmed up here all that much (55-70 degrees) and the Michelin's stick.

I have the michelins and really do not care for them. I would try the nitto's or pirelli tires when I have to buy again. The michelins do not stick as good as the factory tires that came on the car in my experience. This summer I am running M/T street radials for the best traction on the street. Whatever you buy let us know what you think about them.

I even went to the bigger size everyone else has to. The michelins are ok I guess but really not a improvement over the GY's. Like I said I will try something else next time.

M/T's = 1/4 mile racing. Not going to handle the twisties very well. The Michelins are also great in the rain which the OP mentioned the GY's were not. Also interested in hearing what tires are better......Michelin Pilot Ss's win every head to head test so if somebody finds something better I'm in!

I just put BFG - Rival's on last week, 285 fronts and 315 rears. My first drive on the tires was to Camaro fest. I took first in Autocross so I have to say I like them.

Hmmm.... I am a very hard driver with plenty of road course experience. Prior to purchasing my ZL1 all I heard was horrible stories about the stock GY. I do not winter store my car and have been out driving in the below freezing temps here in upstate NY. Yes the GY slips, yes you have to drive slow till they warm up but once they warm up no way is the PSS2 better or offer more stability. Don't get me wrong the PSS2 is a jack of all trades but the GY is the master of grip. Save up your dough and the GY. I have family in Dubai, if you can afford a ZL1 in Dubai you can afford the GY.

Pilot super sport/
Ive had the nt05, invo and mt tires. Never again would i make the mistake of buying those chinchy looking underperforming tires ever again. If you like overall performance michelin is the best hands down. |

So I guess you did not like the GY's that came on your ZL1? After I bought the michelins and put them on my car I almost knew within 10 miles that they were not as good of a tire as the GY's. But I guess that is why there are different tire companies because everyone has their own idea of what they like. Damn, isn't it great to live in a country where you have choices to buy what you want!! |
