No Test Drive?

At a party Saturday night, I was talking to a couple
who were interested in buying a new Camaro [no tire kickers]
The dealer wouldn't allow them to take one out for a test drive.
They told me there were two used ones on the lot, couldn't drive
those. They said they wouldn't buy any car unless they could
test drive it.so they went and bought a new Mustang GT.
Yes the Ford dealer let them test drive one.

A friend of mine had that happen at our local dealership. This guy and his wife have bought several vehicles from this dealership in the past, and yet they flat refused to let him test drive a 1LT, non RS car. He told me, I called my dealership, they had the right color, red, and in a 2LT/RS. I met my friend at that dealership next day, test drove the car, and he bought it. Drove straight down to the dealership in town and flaunted it in their face.

Coad Cheverlot in Anna, IL = bad.
Vic Koeing Cheverlot in Carbondale, IL = finest Chevy dealership in Southern IL IMHO.

I don't understand this at all....

On a whim I took my wife out to Supper back in October. After supper we went over to the local Chevrolet dealer just to "LOOK". I had been on the internet and the dealer had some cars that I wanted to look at, but none really I had to have.

Typical of Dealers NOT to have their full inventory on line, they had my exact Camaro that I would have ordered sitting there. Talked with the Dealer, took it for a test drive WITHOUT the Sales Person. Told them we wou;ld be back in three days to talk turkey about the car. And we bought! If the dealer had not treated me in this way, I would not have bought. Being in my 50's, I walk when my money doesn't talk to these folks.

They, obviously were not insistive nor patient enough.
IF, they REALLY, HAD to "Test Drive" their vehicle prior to
purchasing and WANTED a Camaro they they would have
went elsewhere or @ LEAST put some EFFORT in. Like
inquiring of a Rental/Friend-Owner .

Sounds like they wanted/settled for, a RUSTANG.

"I" waited 11 weeks.... NO COMPLAINTS/Test Drive !!!
Like many other PROUD Owners of .........CAMAROS
And GOT, what I.. WANTED.

Not about the seller..Its ABOUT the purchaser .
And YES...That move makes them "Tire Kickers"

Good for them.. I would have done the same thing. In fact back in 1987 I did. I tried to buy an S-10 EL from the local dealer and he wanted $8000 for it.. I said what do you mean, it only lists for $7000, he said they were hard to find so that was their price..
A week later I saw an ad on tv from another dealer that had them for $5995. I went there and bought one.. I drove it straight to the first dealership asked for the salesman, and pointed to the truck and said $5995... He said, we can't even buy them for that, he turned around and walked off..

I ordered mine when there was none at the dealerships in April 2009, It's a Camaro, so there is no need to test drive for me, I have owned camaro's all my life and these new ones are the best camaro's ever made, so if you really want a Camaro, just buy it

Test Drive? Many here ordered and purchased without ever seeing one with their own eyes. And they waited and waited for it to arrive. That's a committed buyer. If I had the money to buy a Corvette I would not need to test drive it.

I would not buy any car without a test drive. Period.

The first dealer I tried was full of BS. So I went to Holz Chevy and they let me have an RS Bumblee Bee for over an hour....knowing full well I was not going to buy that specific car..I would order exactly what I wanted.

If you can't drive a test car..go somewhere else!

They bought the 2010 Mustang GT instead of waiting for the 2011 version which is supposed to be better?

This is the 1st thing that came to my mind as well.

I understand that dealers are trying to prevent joyrides. I know some are making people get credit approval for the MSRP of the car prior to allowing the test drive...

I went and drove a 2SS/RS Auto two weeks ago no questions asked. I'm going back and driving a 2SS/RS 6M this afternoon.

I ordered mine in June last year just from looking at one and sitting in one on the lot. I was able to drive one at another dealership a month later and it was better than I expected. It is scary not driving one before you buy but I am not dissapointed and would do it again. I love this car,I was worried about people here complaining about blind spots and headroom, maybe I'm the perfect height but I have no problems seeing anything, even backing up isnt bad ,no worse than any other car I had. Did I mention I love this car!!!!!

If you are in doubt and buy a ford instead for that reason you probably won't "get" what it's like to own this car, more for us crazy camaro people.
