Stock differential power limit?
Hey guys!
What's up? I wonder if the stock differential will hold 800+ rwhp if I upgrade the driveshaft and axles, I don't drag race, all of my races start from 40-75 mile/hr, I have a manual transmission by the way, any thoughts? |

You hook, you break.
With what you're saying, you "should" be okay.

We have cars making 950 RWHP on stock Rear Diffs. If you aren't launching on slicks or something, I would expect you'd be okay.

I agree with them, as long as there is no hard traction in the beginning you should be fine.

If the diff does break it's usually the posi which is why switched to a truetrac. I've heard people doing fine with these on auto cars even with slicks. Once I move on or it breaks I'll swap out to the moser solid 9 inch drag kit.

Another option for you (if something does happen) zl1 diff is always an upgrade and if you shop around you can pick them up cheaper than a 9 inch swap (no offense vendors).

He is right, the ZL1 diff is a good option, gear selection is not as wide as say the other options but for under 1000Hp it cant be beat (may want to use aftermarket axles and Driveshaft on it though)

In my 2010, I went through the stock diff, a 3.91 from RPM, and another GM ZL1 3.91. I abandoned all 3 because the howling got so bad. Never broke anything on a 520 rwhp manual. Switched to 9" and that kept the gears in shape longer. A dozen passes a week on a prepped track will test your sh¡t
