Wheel stud size
Does anyone know what size the wheel studs are?
How much can the ZL1 be modified (horsepower and drag slicks) without breaking the wheel studs? |

Don't know..... but I do know they did 1,000 straight launches from dead stop at a drag strip to test strength/durability and nothing broke! Work for ya?

Anyone know the ft/lbs of torque used on the lug nuts on 5 spoke polished wheels?

Mine came with 100ft/lbs of torque applied. I had my dealership's service department split the difference & go for 125ft/lbs as I have heard of shear issues at 140+. 125 should be plenty.
125ft/lbs (technician accident... should have been 85ft/lbs) would literally shear the threaded studs on my '98 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 & Dodge Stealth R/T Twin Turbo. Japanese metal is SOFT! Due to metal differences, the steel hubs & aluminum wheels would literally fuse together & required a bond breaker. If I ever have a stud problem, I swap out all 5. To change out a wheel/tire, they would literally have to be kicked off; not exactly ideal if you get a flat. |

100 vs 110 ?... when u check it, always look for torque required to start movment in the tightening direction...not breakaway loosening torque. Also, it might not be surprising to see some differnce between checks.

My understanding is that the owner's manual calls for 140ft/lbs which on ZL1 studs seems to be a bit much! I don't think they will come off at 125ft/lbs. After a reset, I usually drive a few miles to check for a change. I need to pick up a Snap-On.

GM began to change lugnuts for Camaro in 2012 per owner manual: GM lugnuts with silver color ON THE CONE: 190Nm- 140ftlb GM lugnuts with BLUE color on the cone: 150Nm- 110ftlb And by cone, i mean cone of the lugnut. My bet is that your ZL1 has blue on the cone of the lugnuts... therefore 110ftlb |
