Did anyone else just see the story on Toyota on NBC?

I just saw the story and I never knew that Toyotas don't have a physical throttle cable connecting the gas pedal to the engine. It's some type of electrical sensor. Am I dumb or did anyone else just find that out?

Also... let's hear some opinions on Toyota's problems... Think they knew about it and tried to keep it under wraps for a while? Or do you think they're really trying to be a sincere company and fix the issue as soon as they found out?

They've done that for a while now. I can't remember when they made switchover though.

I saw it... Toyota is going to have a hard time recovering from this. I was stunned by that lady describing how her Lexus accelerated to 100 mph and for 6 minutes nothing she did would slow it down.

I knew they were in trouble after I saw that interview from the Microsoft guy talking about how Toyota wouldn't listen to his warnings about a computer glitch in his Prius.

A lot of cars now use electronic throttle controls, i.e. a throttle position sensor connected to the PCM. But they said something about it being a wireless connection in the Toyota/Lexus which, if correct, is news to me.

"Drive by wire"

it's like that in most (if not all) cars these days...this is nothing new.

Not to mention that executive on camera had a sheepish look on his face like he was about to shit his pants any second. Almost looked guilty. I never saw the interview with the Microsoft guy claiming they ignored his warnings. That definitely adds interest to the story.

Are you kidding me. They've known about these problems since 2000. I feel bad for all the people this has affected, but I sure as hell don't feel bad for Toyota and I hope this hurts them very, very badly!

I don't think you'd ever see any of the big three doing this kind of shady dealing.

Yea, cars have been "fly-by-wire" for years now.

I think Toyota has known and tried to sweep it under the rug and thought it would go away.

Not after that interview they wont. They got the CEO on camera the week before!!! They knew it and covered it up, Just like the lady said, "Shame on you!"

The professor that got the car to accelerate without having any codes show up was awesome. That guy needs to come work on our V6 now!

If I remember correctly it was the co-founder of APPLE that was interviewed regarding his run away Prius. If that guy was ignored by Toyota then who else would be a more qualified electronics expert?

Wow.. I just read the story about Steve Wozniak. That's really something that even he can't get through to them. They sure as hell can't say he doesn't know what he's talking about.
