Practicality of an Everyday Camaro
Hey guys, I had an old topic about this car in the snow, but this is a new question. I have decided that I would be able to take one of my parent's cars if it was an emergency to get anywhere in the snow (whenever the rare moments of snow exist here). Also, any issue for me was solved, such as getting an aftermarket backup camera.
But in this topic, I would like to know the practicality of Camaros. Since in my daily commute, I will be on the highway (with v6, so about 29 mpg), I thought that it is a nice and fast though fairly economical car, so that's not an issue. But what I am worried about are two things. First, I'm worried about the chances of my future Camaro being keyed or damaged by jerks, and secondly, if it's ok that the two rear seats can't really fit anyone, so I would only be able to fit one person in it with me. thanks guys |

Hatas gunnuh hayte mang. Car might get keyed, all you can do it park it near a light. As far as the back seat goes, it's small. No two ways around it.

Us maybe choosing a more discreet color (like black, Grey, or dark blue) a good way to get unnecessary attention? Or is it still a keying magnet? I just want a nice car to drive, but I don't want to always worry about it when I leave it somewhere. I always try to stay in the best areas I can, but I know getting vandalized can happen anywhere. Any other tips to maybe minimize chances of getting unwanted attention.
And after browsing this forum a lot, no, I don't have an angry ex. thanks |

LOL well that will definitely work in your favor
A subtle color may help, but where you park it is going to make the biggest difference. Park it at a highschool for example, and you're running a risk. Just park it where it can be monitored, and try to drive nice anywhere you plan on parking it... I don't take my car out on Halloween anymore at ALL, and for good reason. Just be wary of where you park it, and who can see it. Otherwise, I say go for it. It's good on gas, and has PLENTY of power (even the LT) and if you move the seats all the way up you can fit people in the back, but it's not gonna be super comfy. But honestly, the less people you have wanting to ride in it anyway, the less opportunity for interior damage

Heh thanks for some good advice. I'm gonna be getting this car for college, and one which, from reviews, has many rich kids with luxury cars, so hopefully my Camaro wouldn't get too much attention (even though it looks better than any of them, IMO). I'm going to be visiting it soon, and I'm gonna take a look and see where the cameras are positioned (if any) so I would know the best place to park. But yea, on Halloween I never drive, not even with my 98 avalon. I just hitch a ride with a friend to whatever parties there are lol.
Also, I'm attracted to the white color with black stripes, but if its too showy, I guess I can go with grey or black. But we'll see. But I'm gonna raise hell if I come back to the parking lot after the first day and see profanities written all over. Last edited by Pwner50; 03-08-2010 at 11:16 PM. Reason: punctuation |

Jerks key cars because they're jerks, not because there is a concerted effort against any make or model. I know as many people who drive total crap-boxes that have been vandalized as people who drive nice cars that have been vandalized.
Consider a cramped back seat as being worth an additional 5 to 10 MPG. Whenever you are a part of a group of 3 or more people, everybody starts insisting on taking their sedans. You save all that gas, wear & tear and folks accidentally scuffing up your interior! |

I guess that does make sense, because my cousin had a pretty cheap and old car, and after coming to his car after classes, he found it beaten up with all of the windows broken. It's a sad world we live in.

Well, I will need to play around with the seats. I'll need to see how far up the seats have to be to fit people in the back, without pushing my chest against the steering wheel.

I've had adults (as well as my two kids) in the rear seats and while I wouldn't be going on an extended road-trip like that, for the 20 min ride out to dinner and the 20 min ride back, it wasn't that bad. They weren't complaining at all nor was I breathing in and out against the pressure of the steering wheel- know what I mean? Granted I'm 5-10 and my backseat passengers were of average size and build also so take that for what it's worth. I guess what I'm saying is don't just assume the back seats are completely useless because they certainly are not.

No one of adult size can fit behind me, but Ive had two passengers before and no one seemed to bitch.
Now about averaging 29 mpg......good luck with all that, more like 20 unless you drive like a granny and 100% on the highway. |

V6 realistically will probably get you more like 25, at least that's about how our rental did...

Practicality, not too practical. My car sat in the barn for 3 months and if my 4x4 truck would happen to break down mid winter during snow, I would not have a car. Sold my grand prix to buy the camaro and my pontiac was great in the snow and I drove it all the time, not so with the camaro. Part of it is because I don't want to drive it in the snow and salt but most of it is because these tires are terrible in snow. And the back seats are really only good for kids or short trips. So, I would say the camaro is not practical.
