Talking Sebring Track Day October 2012

I want to start saying that i seen a couple threads in this forum of people saying that they will never take their car on the track, well to those I say you’re missing out on what this car is capable off! I want to thank Induction Performance in Tampa for getting my car track ready. I had the pleasure of having Van as my instructor all weekend and let me tell you that he is a very smart and capable driver. It’s sad that he got banned from this site but after this past weekend he has a new found respect for ZL1. Sebring was very hot around 110 degrees, our cars do not like the heat at all, on the last lap my car went into limp mode and i had to coast down the track. Overall a great weekend and i can’t wait to do it all over again!!

Couple pics:

Man I think both of these car just look sick. I wish there was not all hate and bs but for some reason some people just can't like both cars.

I must have switched back and fourth 3 different time before I picked which car I was going to get after my 2012 order got pushed.

To be honest having both cars next to each other i love the front of the mustang bc is so aggressive, I like the rear of the camaro better and the interior. The GT500 was a blast around the track with all those ponies !!

it does look mean. who knew just getting rid of that stupid egg crate plastic POS they ran for years would look that much better. On my last mustang I deleted the grill cause I hated that plastic looking thing.

yeah I went in an checked out the sterling gray one that came into the local dealer here. I could have ordered their allocation. they added nav, shaker, recaro's over what I was going to order. 67k+

there are just apsects of each car that are better IMO. I like the carbon heat extractor on the ZL1. I like the instrument cluster better on the GT500. The hud is cool on the ZL1. The boost gauge placement on the GT500 is 1000X better. the power is better on the GT500, the suspension is more managable on the ZL1. I like the 7k redline much better on the GT500. I was so used to my Z06 that I struggle to not want to rev past 6250.

All and all though most people just buy one love it and then talk crap about the other one. ha ha. both car are just really really good in there own way.

my only complaint on the shelby was I could not affoard the one I wanted. I was all I could do to come up with the 55k my ZL1 cost let alone the TP and PP for the shelby.

black is your car stock? I'm glad that your experience with Van was a good one. Maybe he could get with the Mods here and get re-instated. If he has a new found respect for the ZL1 then his input would be welcome. I also agree with you that people that doen't track thier cars are missing out. I missed out this year due to the drag strip being closed the night that I went and Watkins Glen track days being over for the year. I have dyno'd my car and look forward to hittting the drag strip next year atleast once and WG 3-4 times at track days.

My car is slightly modded, I have an intake, headers, pulley kit and a tune and heat exchanger.. The mods really woke up the car and it's a blast to drive

I would say that you and Van have about the same mods. Van was challanging ZL1's sim. to his GT500 to run at Sebring. Thanks for representing the ZL1 community.

My car made 616 WHP with the mods, Van did headers and intake and his GT500 made 697 WHP. The biggest difference that I saw on the track was the way our ecu pulled timing when heat soak became an issue. In the ZL1 you felt the timing being pulled and performance demisnished, in the GT500 it was more suttle and it did not seem to affect the performance as much.

Sounds like you need something more to reduce intake temp.

Were you checking your lap times at all, or was it just an HPDE event? Just curious because I was there last saturday and I didn't record any lap times because it was mostly a learning experience for me. Also are you thinking about getting the superchiller now?

We where going to put a transponder and record lap times but never got to it. Yeah I may do a meth kit or something to bring down the intake temps. What's next is ported blower, snout, mild cam and injectors.
