2013 Camaro V-6 Engine Ticking Noise?

I have a 2013 Camaro V-6 that developed an engine "ticking" noise at 200 miles. It was not there prior to 200 miles. I took it to the Chevrolet Dealer in Sarasota and they said it's the fuel injectors and it's normal. Does anyone else have this same situation? Tom Dietrich wtdiet1944@yahoo.com

Welcome to the fam. I have a 2010 that has ticking and sometimes a chirping sound. These cars have a high pressure direct injection system with multiple fuel pumps and injectors. In order to get the fuel pressure needed the injectors are a bit chatty. Not saying your noise is normal but these engines are known for a little noise. Most likely if it was something bad you get get a check engine light or poor drivability.

There is no engine check light on. You only hear it at idle with a warm engine. Dealer said it's normal and not to worry about it, so I guess I won't.

I've heard it on my 2010. Was concerned at first. But I've had no problems and it seems to be normal. Is it where you can hear it like every 1-3 seconds? And its always there right? If you rev the engine up it stops. And when it idles back down you can hear it again? Sound about right?

It's a normal V6 sound. It's either the HP fuel pump of the DI injectors.

I have a 2011 that had the same noise. It had the same sound like a belt or chain that was lose. Had Chevy check it out when I had it in for an oil change and they told me it's a normal sound.

V-6 Ticking Noise

The V-6 ticking noise on my 2013 Camaro is only at idle with a hot engine. If you rev the engine you do not hear it. On a Cold engine you do not hear it. When driving you do not hear it. Dealer said it's the High Pressure Fuel Injectors and it's normal. They said it's nothing to worry about. Thanks for all the responses.

Like said before it's normal for these engine to have a loud tick as it's the injectors clicking away. Nothing to worry about, the Caddy's with the V6's do it also. If you don't hear it is when you should worry. But normal for those not used to hearing it.

If you go to this link it will show all the GM High Feature Engines that would also make the ticking sound.

Also here is a bulletin from before the Camaro came out of other cars with this sound.

#07-06-04-025A: Information on Clicking/Ticking Sound/Noise Heard During Cold Start, Sound/Noise Decreases But Continues as Engine Warms-Normal Operation of High Pressure Fuel Pump and Injectors - (Nov 26, 2008)

Subject: Information on Clicking/Ticking Sound/Noise Heard During Cold Start, Sound/Noise Decreases But Continues as Engine Warms - Normal Operation of High Pressure Fuel Pump and Injectors

Models: 2008-2009 Cadillac CTS, STS
2009 Buick Enclave
2009 Chevrolet Traverse
2009 GMC Acadia
2009 Saturn OUTLOOK
with 3.6L VVT Direct Injection V6 Engine (VINs D, V -- RPO LLT)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This bulletin is being revised to add the 2009 model year to the Cadillac models and include additional truck models. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 07-06-04-025 (Section 06 -- Engine/Propulsion System).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Do This
Inform the customer that this is normal operation of the high pressure fuel pump and injectors.

Don't Do This
DO NOT replace the high pressure fuel pump and or injectors.

The 3.6L SIDI engine (VIN V - RPO LLT) uses a direct injection fuel system that operates at very high fuel pressures. A direct injection fuel system produces a rapid clicking and ticking sound that can be heard from the engine compartment. The sound is more evident when outside around the vehicle or when the hood is open. The sound is more noticeable during idle and is more frequent during a cold start, but lessens once the engine is warm. The rapid ticking noise on cold start up is the fuel pump (located on the rear of the left cylinder head) building up high fuel pressure. When the engine warm-up is completed, the high pressure fuel pump will continue to tick at a lower rate of approximately one tick per second during idle. The clicking sound is the fuel injectors pulsing on and off under higher fuel pressures. These sounds are the results of a normal direct injection fuel system operating properly.

DO NOT attempt to repair or replace any parts for this kind of clicking or ticking concern. The clicking or ticking sound is not indicative of any concerns with the engine or the vehicle. You may wish to give the customer a copy of this bulletin.

I have the same problem, I played close attention and it sounds like it comes from the right side of the engine bay, any one else notice that?
