2006 Mustang GT vs. 2011 V6 Camaro

Well, my brother (a die-hard Mustang fan - 2012 Mustang GT) invited my husband and me to the local 1/8 mile track to have some fun last night. We took my DD, a 2006 Mustang GT.

My husband drove the GT first and was up against a Cynergy Green V6 Camaro. Our car is completely stock, and I am sure the Camaro was at least mostly stock. Maybe had a few things like filters, exhaust, etc. Nothing huge. Our GT beat the Mustang pretty badly.

When I ran the GT, my times stayed pretty consistent at 9.3 in the eighth.

Anyway, I guess I was expecting the Camaro to whoop up on the GT because it does have a lot more horsepower and my GT has a very high gear ratio - definitely not set up for racing.

Oh, well. I did have a great time running the track. It's was the first time that I actually had the guts to take a car down the track. After the first round, my husband couldn't get another turn. It was so addictive.....

Although, after seeing the condition of the quarter panels this morning, there is noooo way that I would take my Camaro down the strip. Too much wear and tear on the paint.

Seems a bit odd because there are a few stock V6 Camaros running 9.3 in the 1/8th mile.

Peak horsepower can be very misleading. You need to look at the whole curve. The V6 Camaro does have more peak horsepower than an 06 Mustang GT. However, the GT has a 50 ft-lb torque advantage to pull it off the line. The 4.6L 3V engine's power peak is also very flat and wide. (it is within about 5 hp of its 300 peak everywhere between 5000 and 6000 RPM). The LLT V6 has a sharper (narrower) peak at a higher RPM.

And don't forget the SRA. SRA tend to get power to the ground more efficiently than an IRS and all its CV joints.

Agreed... a 9.3 in the 1/8th works out to about a 14.4 in the 1/4... So thinking the Camaro was either stock or poor driver. With a some bolt-ons the V6 Camaro should be low 14s or even dip into the 13s...

Yep... very easy to become a track junkie!!!!

As for your paint... don't worry there are couple of things you can do:

1) Get some of the wide, blue painters tape and cover the panels...

or

2) Seen guys use some type of plastic wrap... not sure what exactly they use..

or

3) Mist down the the panel with quick detailer and don't wipe it off. Or in my case I use Pledge! The rubber just rinses off then and it leaves the car Lemony Fresh! LOL

Before trying any of those, just make sure you have a good coat of was on!

Hrrmm...well hard to say what happened. How was the DA at your track?

I only see one completely stock time for our V6 1/8 mile fast list and it was a 10 flat. But we have several 1/8 times in the modded section and they are quite a bit faster than 9.3.

Here are spots 6 - 10: you can see that a couple of the guys had little more than an intake and/or a tune did well. Some are much more modded....I guess the launch is everything.

6. 8.983 @ 79.00 - rtcat600man - A6 - (Injen CAI, MRT v2.0 Axle Back)
7. 9.015 @ 78.44 - usa1camaro1969 - M6 - (DRs, K&N CAI, BBK Longtubes, Cherry Bomb V8 Catback, Trifecta Tune)
8. 9.018 @ 77.53 - Beauwulf - A6 - (Airaid v1.0, MRT v1.0 Axle Back, Trifecta Tune)
9. 9.059 @ 78.99 - devildoc - A6 - (Airaid v2.0, IAT Relocate, ARH Longtubes/High Flow Cats, MRT v2.0 Axle Back, Trifecta Tune)
10. 9.126 @ 81.22 - mrray13 - A6 - (Injen CAI, ARH Longtubes/High Flow Cats, Flowmaster Super 44s, Trifecta tune)

Thanks for the advice. I will definitely put some kind of detailer or pledge on the car next time. My DD is actually my 13 year old's car that we bought for him to start practicing in. I will see how well the rubber rinses off his car and might actually work up the nerve to take mine.

But there are posts in the 1/4th thread that are bone stock with 660' times of 9.3 or lower.

There wasn't another 5th Gen Camaro there because it was Mustang/Ford night. I am sure that a modded Camaro would have beat my stock GT. However, I really thought the GT wouldn't stand much of a chance. Oh, well. I am still the Camaro fan - just needs to be a v8. In that case, my poor little car would have been toasted.

The guy was even faster off the line that my husband by over a half second. Still lost.

And the extra weight of the Camaro

Most manual Camaros are running mid 14s, best I have seen here is 14.2, autos are slower..............

Don't know about all day long..... Here is my brand new, 4 day old, 100% stock V6 Camaro beating a Mustang GT! Stopped the video a bit to early since I was laughing so hard... My buddy is behind the wheel of my Camaro, and my other friend is in his Mustang Shelby GT (NOT a GT500! just the dressed up GT). The Camaro beats the Mustang's ET by .002! Spinning ain't winning!

Moral of the story... any car can beat any other car, because sometimes SH*T HAPPENS!!! LOL!
