Putting $1000 down in the morning. Sales person felt "pretty good" that it was going to be refundable...also felt "pretty good" they were not going to charge over MSRP.

Also heard from someone at the Big Tex fair (where they are showing the black one) that pricing would be available Monday.

WE are taking no deposits with a real order, as we cannot say for sure a true date and time the vehicle will come in. All we can do at our dealership is take the order and give you a time frame when it may come into the dealership.. then when it arrives we would call you then make arrangements to come in and pick it up!

I put $1000 down and even though the dealer can ask for a deposit - I do not believe they can legally KEEP the money without you getting a car (in essence, all deposits are refundable until you sign a contract/take ownership of the vehicle). This was stated by the dealer I ordered from this morning.

My dealer did not require a deposit, but I put $500.00 down anyway just so they would know that I was a serious buyer! Ordered mine on 10/23/2008. I received a call from my dealer last week that mine will be built the week of 5/04-5/08 with a delivery date of ten days after the actual date that it is born! Ordered 2SS/RS 6spd manual, Victory Red, Polished Wheels. I also order the Short Throw Hurst Shifter and Painted Engine cover but neither is available yet! I could wait for those parts and a new delivery date or drop the items (They are both dealer installs anyway)....Well, that was a no brainer! I dropped the options!

If you can't afford $1000 you probably can't afford the TCO (total cost ownership, base payment, insurance, fuel, etc etc). This is a non personal thing, I am the terminator of car financing (no emotion).

Actually no they can't. Federal consumer laws prevent the dealerships from keeping the money if you ask for it back if something happens and you need it back. Until you sign the paperwork purchasing the car, they have to give you your money back. As far as the court of law is concerned there is no such thing as a non-refundable deposit as long as a sale has not been made.

Always use a credit card also, that way you have recourse if the dealer goes out of business or something else happens. Write a check or give cash and your money may not be recoverable.
