Nitrogen
When I bought my Camaro I had the tires filled with Nitrogen. I found that the tires loose very little pressure over a long period of time. Here is the tire dealer information that filled my tires no charge:

Snake oil. Thanks for the heads up I'll steer clear of that place. At least they aren't charging anymore for it.

Okay
When I first brought My Camaro home week after week was loosing 4-6 pounds pressure. Whats up with that? Remembering that Indy & NASCAR use Nitrogen in there tires I decided to follow suit. Went to Allen Tire they were more than happy fill the tires with Nitrogen no charge. Has been several months with only 1-2 pounds loss pressure better than 4-6 every week. Air has moisture it will leak you will lose pressure it is Physics plain and simple. Nitrogen does not have moisture. If you have Chrome Rims like I do the rims with Nitrogen will not rust from the inside out as they certainly would with air.

Look it up i saw it on one of the car shows on spike, i cant remember which but with nitrogen ur tires wont brown due to the density (or something like that) that doesnt allow airflow through the pores in the tire rubber

Multi-million dollar aircraft use nitrogen for tires and struts, better for heat dissipation during landing and almost zero moisture to freeze inside the tire when in flight. If you can get it for free, why not?

I used to race Late Model Stock cars for a living for many years. Tire Stagger is very crucial. I like nitrogen in high temp applications. When you have RS tires above 200 degrees it makes a huge difference, because the nitrogen doesn't have the moisture like air, tire pressure and stagger were more predictable (they don't grow as much). As far as the leak thing, I can't comment about. Our tires would go flat over night, sitting. You spray a soap mix on the sidewall of a brand new mounted race tire, you'll see bubbles everywhere.

The wheels are aluminium, not steel. The green valve stem covers are more functional then the nitrogen in the tires unless you plan on keeping the same tires on for the life of the vehicle. Normal air is cheap and easy enough(free). There is a dealership here that sold nitrogen filled tires for $300. They said she got "special" wheels. LOL Theres a sucker born every minute I guess.
I can see the use in race applications, but for every day cars, not really any point. |
