That's what I thought, the two current best handling track cars against each other. It was a test of balance and overall feel, not just speed.

So on one hand MT praises the LS, then when the ZL1 clearly outclasses it it is only lukewarm praise. I call BS!
However, it does still wait to compare it againts the 2013 GT500 which by all paper accounts is a great vehicle. We shall see how it pts down the power in real life. I look forward to that match-up. We will certainly see the pinnacle of pony cars!! |

Ford LS was better than the GT500 when previously track tested, so comparison testing between the ZL1 was warranted. I'd like to see how this 'new' GT500 compares to the LS, before it gets in the ring w/ the ZL1.

What an exciting time the evolution of transportation!! It's great to finally see our major car manufacturers competing to see who can out-engineer the other. What does that spell? Better quality products for us, the Consumer! Competition in a capitalistic free market is ALWAYS good for the Consumer!!
Way to go GM and Ford!! (C'mon Chrysler...get in the game!!)

Catch me if you can

Ok here's something for you guys, I'm not sure where they did the 1/4 test. But if it was indeed done in Arizona, I can tell you that the time of 12.1 is slow compaired to somewhere that is at sea level. If I knew the day that they did this test I could tell you what the DA was and give you a good idea of what the ZL-1 can truely run.
Just a rough estimate, I'm going to say 11.6 to 11.85.

This article has made more justification to why Motor Trend is junk. Comparing a supercharged ZL-1 to a slightly tuned/naturally aspirated version of the Mustang GT. This was stupid.
I was provided with only the following: 1. The GT500 was either not provided to Motor Trend for this, or they were afraid how poorly the outcome would be. 2. I'm a little scared that a supercharged Camaro can only marginally defeat a tuned Mustang GT. So either Ford did great, or GM didn't do enough? 3. I learned some nice things about the components that make up the ZL-1. But that about it. Other than that....MT junk. Not hating...just...disappointed.

Pretty good review. Of course they had to begin the article with the history of the Mustang. Its like they had to let you know that they love the Mustang but are about to finally admit defeat.

If they had tested the ZL1 against the current GT500, the critics would have said they should have tested against the Boss since its more of a track car.
Can't win either way Nice job GM. Awesome car.

Why not both the GT500 and Boss? I'm sure Motortrend could have got both cars. I'm actually pretty impressed with the ZL1. It seems like a very well balanced car. Looking forward to the 2013 GT500 vs 2012 ZL1 showdown!

plus the boss is a hassle to drive fast compared to the Zl1. add 200+hp and subtract r-comps to that mustang and see where it goes. needless to say the Shelby has some work cut out for it...

Look for the 2013 GT500 vs. 2013 ZL1 showdown, as the 2013 models will be out at the same time, Summer 2012.
