A10 Launch Control...

Hey guys...

Newb here....does the 2017 A10 Camaro ZL1 have launch control?

If so, how does one use/engage it?

Look forward to you people's feedback.

Thanks very much

yes...both the A10 cars and M6 cars have launch control. I haven't tried it in my A10 car as I am still in the break in period. With the A10 the rpms are limited to 2400 with launch control.

The launch control is custom on the ZL1.... you can change the parameters in the settings..... launch rpm, slippage, etc.

There are nominal settings until they are changed....

Thanks very much. I got to the customization screen wherein you adjust the launch rpm and slippage. First time ZL1 owner so please bear with me.

What is slippage and why would you adjust that? I mean wouldn't you always want 0% slippage ?

Lastly, I think I'm doing something wrong because after setting launch rpm to 2400rpm which was the limit, I applied left foot brake and right foot on the gas but like a normal burn out, my wheels start spinning.

Any idea what I am doing wrong?

You have to hold the brake very hard...... then gas it fully.....

slippage about 5-8% I would start at..... launch at about 1800-2000 rpm.......

Launch control can be a bit tricky sometimes. You have to really stand on the brake hard and slam the gas to the floor really fast. Do either one of those wrong and the car will try to spin the tires.

I messed around yesterday with it.... you have to have TC and Stabilitrack disabled for it to work..... when I just disabled TC it torched the tires....

So push the TC button on the console down twice to turn both off.... first push is TC and the second is Stabilitrack...... if you just hold it down for 6-8 seconds it shuts it all off.... but make sure you know your car because no nannies are on this way.....the car can get away from you if you are not careful....

Yes. You have to enter PTM by pushing the button twice before you can get into line lock and launch control.

I don't think you can get into launch control if you just hold it down and turn everything off can you? I don't remember trying that to see.

Yes, I use sport mode more than track mode. Better 60 ft. times with sport than track right now. Like you have done I have tried many scenarios to launch, and the best to date is no launch control, brake hold at 1800-2000 rpm and a tip in off the line....like you described in your recent time slip thread. TM is not as much a hinderance that way..... so far.... I have a couple more scenarios to try.... once I get a better handle on it, I will let you know the results....

I'm also using sport mode for my general setting with everything off at the strip. I've only played with launch control a little on the street and thus far it's slowed me down, but I believe one could dial it in to work with enough time. I really think launch control will shine once the car is modded, making big power, with TM disabled.....if it can be used with low air pressure like someone said the other day.

I honestly did not expect positive results on lowering your tire pressure so much on a street tire.... it usually goes the other way..... you have piqued my interest in trying that.... never even considered it because it has always hurt my times before..... your 0-60 and 60 ft. times look really good!

I only tried because my dad has a higher hp mustang (724 to the tire) that he ran on some 20" wheels before swapping to a drag pack and he said he got his best times at 12 psi. I actually convinced him to try it after he said he was already getting the full width of his tire on the ground, and I told him that lower air isn't going to change the width, but will increase the contact patch front to rear. It worked for him, so we started at 18 on mine the first track day.

I just remembered another thing I left out of my street car takeover thread about my first run that could've been why I spun so much on the launch. I tried 26 psi in the rear to see what happened, planning to play with launch control some for the first time at the track, but quickly dropped the air back down to 18 after looking at my tires after that run and seeing I had about 1/2 inch of tread on the outer edge that hadn't touched the track. I've been running around with traction compound from the track on the outer edge of my rear tires from the first track event back in May because that part of the tire doesn't touch the ground at full air pressure or even at 26 psi apparently.

My tire pressure ended up dropping to 17 after sitting 3 1/2 hours and the outside temp dropping as it turned night. That's what I left the pressures at for my fastest pass. I should've checked the air before I made the very last run, because I'm sure it went back up some from the previous pass.
