zinc-alloy I believe....

anyway, I tried one once on an old Dodge truck of mine, didn't seem to help but I have no way of measuring how much rust I would've had with or without the device as I had no control Dodge.
It is junk, don't waste your money! <short version>

It is called "Cathodic Protection" (CP) and while it is a well proven technology for ships, bridges, storage tanks, etc, it has a problem when it comes to its application on a car. It actually can be made to work but only if the maker zink electroplates all of the exposed metal on the car and even that is not 100% but not bad.

For CP to work there must be a complete electrical circuit at all times, so to ensure this for all parts of the car, discounting electroplating zinc on, you would need little anodes (sacrificial material) all over the place and then make sure it stayed "connected" to the metal you want to protect, and that is just really not practical to do on a car since I take you don't plan on a lot of ocean driving.

You can find debunking information on these if want more information.

If I recall correctly these devices also need to be grounded to work. So unless you have a chain or other metal touching the ground from the car they won't work. Rubber tires just don't conduct electricity at all. Ships use water as the ground, bridges are attached to the ground directly. BTW Canadian Tire sells these for $199 (CounterAct Electronic Rust Protection System).

Nice idea, if it worked.

FYI, i'm told that the pricing I got was lowered because I bought the car from them... so it might be a little more for 'outsiders'...
Just to get back on topic...I visited Simply Tire on Friday and received the following quote from Allen:

4 - 18"x7.5" Sport Tuning Turbine rims and TPMS - $1,040
4 - 225/60/18 Firestone Winterforce Tires - $660

All in $1,700 + tax = $1,921

As a comparison the exact package from Tirerack.com is $1,522USD = about $1,600 CDN.

Cool. The winterforces are a bit cheaper than what my dealer quoted me, but the overall package from them is a couple hundred less. $1720.52 taxes in, with the Heritage Steelies. Steel rims = one less thing to worry about getting dinged or eroded by roadsalt And like i've said a million times, i just think they LOOK cool lol.

Thanks for the info. This site's made making informed decisions on stuff like this a lot easier.

I'm trying to get my dealer to give me a better price on the heritage wheels, or I am going to have to order them from the US. The poster earlier in the thread isn't responding to PM's or I would buy from him. Did anyone here get a good price on the heritage from their dealer? in the GTA?

Just to follow up about the sensor # for the 2LT RS we have , from Tire Rack it is
S09331200923.
We have had some pretty carppy weather this last week, the Camaro seems to be handling quite well on both ice and snow with the winter tire package I had mentioned.
Good luck with your winter driving everybody!

Well I guess from what you guys say, I made a sucker's bet with the module. However, I DO have a rust warranty with it so I don't think I threw my money away. They have to have some sort of quality control on their device. I will just take it into the dealer and get them to fix whatever rusts on my car. Simple as that.

I got a price of $168 each from North York chev. Problem is their not real good with returning calls to find out if they have arrived.

If anyone has a better place to buy from let me know. I have been disappointed in the service department. The salesman I dealt with Lucio was amazing however their service department isn't that great

Although they are being a pain to deal with, my parts department said $230 per wheel... that is painful!

I think I'm going to order mine from Camaro Scotty's parts department. His price was good and they will install my tirerack.com rubber and ship it up here.

I need to get this done, it is getting cold fast!

Sounds like with the rust warranty it will all come out in the wash if you get any rust so it does not really matter if the device works or not, so you got a 100% no rust warranty that came with a neat electronic box

It does work in the right places, like ships, but it does not have to be grounded, that is just generally the best way to complete the circuit on a large structure like a ship or bridge.

The key is a complete electrical circuit between the anode, cathode, and electrolite (salty water in this case), the problem is that is really hard to do since parts of the car dry and then either the medium needed to carry the electrons from the sacraficial metal and protected metal is gone and/or you no longer have a medium to complete your battery (which is all it really is).

At that price I would just get the $99 rims from tirerack and not even bother with the heritage wheels.
