Extra ECM for tune warranty.

I am not looking to get flammed but I think the warrenty geting voided simply for a tunner is crap. I was wondering why you cant just buy a ecm and tune it and keep stock ecm programmed stock and replace before warranty work the flashes are stored in the ecm.

because, there is info stored in the ECM, that will not match up with other modules if you swap them... i.e. mileage... it mileage in the ECM does not match the odometer, then they know you've swapped modules...

there's a GM document floating around here that describes all this more...

What Monte said + ECM's are being tagged with the VIN of the car it belongs to.

Ah well i would leave the ecm that that came with the car stock and replace new tuned ecm with stock ecm for warranty work. Also if they check if its been flashed and dont see it has why would a dealer be checking mileage on ecm?

I was curious about this aswell...

I have seen some of the ls1 swapped cars run 2 ecm's, one say for an all motor tune, then another for a nitrous tune...

If there is a warranty issue, they will definately check the milage to make sure you weren't swapping ECM's.

Besides, I remember reading about the car being locked up if the ECM was swapped.
I gotta look for that....

Good luck getting your hands on a replacement PCM. They are on lockdown from GM.

Theres always some troll probably jealous. I wasn't asking for your moral stance on warranty's. Its a simple question and me having money or not to fix the car has nothing to do with it.

But you asked a question that is inherently moral in its nature. Its not suprising you got the response you got.

Nobody's jealous. GM tells you not to tune the car, or they'll void your powertrain warranty. That's pretty black and white.

Yes this was not the question at hand. No where did I ask" you guys think its ok to swap ECMs" or "Will it void your warranty"or say I was going to for that matte,r just a hypothetical question. Sure I was considering it. But thats my choice not anyone elses. Basicly you can give input or talk crap guess thats what some people choose to do. I have no problem with you btw. Your op is your op. Just silly to say ''got to pay to play'' we are adults right?

People are just trying to help you avoid a federal offense. People just think it's crap that you think it's crap that you can't tune your car and keep your warranty.
