For those who don't speed radar detectors are a great reminder to slow down. Can definitely save you from an "accidental" ticket for sure. Every now and then you can get caught not paying attention to your speed.. Even you have probably caught yourself and slowed down...

Escort Redline trumps all right now if your not looking for GPS assisted.

There's a radar test webpage that tests them all.

You have two devices on your Camaro to assist you from speeding.
1. Speed alert warning alarm you can set to warn you if you go over any speed.
2. Cruise Control.

The only reason you purchase a radar detector is because you intend to speed and do not want to be caught. Using the excuse that it will save you from accidental tickets is just trying to justify it to others that really know why you got one.

I agree with Skyman. I've been driving longer than I care to admit. I've seen the results of driving too fast. Blood on asphalt is hard to get out of your head. There are real, not imaginary, reasons for speed limits. For the most part the speed limits are about right for the average driver, under average conditions, driving a car that has had average maintanance. I know, you think you are better than the average driver. And you know your Camaro is a better than average car for higher speeds, etc. etc. etc. What you don't know is that some fool driving a truck dropped a small piece of metal off the undercarriage of his truck about 3 minutes before you came by. When your tire hits said piece of metal, if you are cruising right at the speed limit you have a better than fair chance of keeping your car upright, on the road and in it's lane. If you are doing 20 to 25 or 30 miles over the limit the probability of that drops dramatically. There is no radar/laser detector in the world that will help at that time son, it is up to you, the car and God.

Take your fast driving to a local track where it can be controlled. You'll have a lot more fun. And it is far safer.

Yeah all those 55 zones that were placed at 55 during the recession to save gas arent a good enough reason to get a radar detector. Oh and then you have cops who take advantage of it and get a cash cow cause they know people are going to speed on said road.

There are many reasons to have or not to have luckily its a free country and the only way to combat stupid ass speed limits on a lot of americas roadways and not get raped by the system. Is to protect yourself and buy a damn radar detector.

The national 55 MPH speed limit was revoked many years ago. The places that remain 55 are there because it was proven it is safer in those areas than 65 or 70. You are just trying to justify owning one. You proved my point with your post that the only real reason you have a radar detector is because you want to speed. You Are a irresponsible driver that only cares about himself and not the others you share the road with. A free country does not mean you can purposely break any laws you disagree with. If someone thinks they deserve your Camaro more than you, do you feel they have a right to take it from you?

They inform you of accidents that have happened ahead and law enforcement that has someone pulled over. There IS a safety aspect to these things whether you care to admit it or not. They simply slow people down who would not otherwise slow down.

Another reason for me is I drive w/ no front plate and as long as I'm not pulled over for speeding or missing a turn signal this pretty much gets ignored. I don't want a random speeding mistake to mess up my no front plate. I've already read how perfect your driving is so please don't repeat it. I'm not perfect and have an occasional lead foot, the radar detector helps.

It also appears this thread has been Jacked... Here's a reminder of what it should be about.
