I agree. I have never done anything special, besides the battery tender, and just left my cars parked in the garage (back in the good old days when I had one).
My father has a 72 Buick Skylark convertible that he puts in a warehouse over the winter and doesn't even put a tender on it and it starts right up every year. T.

Is it recommended to disconnect the battery and keep it in a warm, controlled area? Is 60 degrees celsius alright? For my garaged Gen 4 Camaro, when I owned it, I'd start it up once a week until the cold weather was over. Seemed to start without any problems.

I store my Camaro and my motorhome for the long Michigan winters. I have used Sta-bil in the gas tank and used Lucas Fuel Injector cleaner for the last 100 miles of use before storage. Both vehicles have run perfectly after sitting for 5 months.
I also have some silicon bags I put in the interior to absorbe moisture. I also put down plastic on the concrete floor to serve as a moisture barrier between the vehicle and the floor - seems to work. Tony |

Start it up at least every week, drive it around the yard & park it where it was, leave a dehumidifier in the bay, never done anything with the battery.

A long time ago I put my 1st gen in storage and used jack stands. First of all I was lucky (what if there was a fire-would never get it out). Second I will never forget after putting the tires back on, the creeks I heard when lowering it down. Sounded like I was breaking every bone in it's body.Have never stored it like that again.

My wife has a gas guzzler 4 wheel drive SUV for winter, and a compact car for summer (saves a lot of money on gas). She puts 25K plus miles a year so she actually wears out both vehicles in the time most people wear out one. We don't have room in the garage for both, so we leave one in a garage near my work (which I get to use for free!!).
Whichever one is in storage, I usually go and start it up and run it every 2 weeks or so. I put around 5-10 miles on it, and then back in the storage garage. Never had a problem, but it is a pain in the a$$ to find the time to do it. Even in the Northeast, you usually have at least one decent day where the roads are clear in any given two week span. Besides, do you really think you'll be able to go that long without spending some time behind the wheel?

the jacking up thing is from the bias ply tires of old, they used to flat spot from sitting. so you really don't need to with radial tires.
i will change the oil, wash, wax, cover and hook up a battery tender. my garage is set to 55 degrees in the winter. (in floor heat)

there isnt anything special to do. Put stabil in the tank. Disconnect batter. Plug exhaust with rags to keep mice out. Put some moth balls in a tin foil bowl and put one in motor compartment and a couple under car, keeps animals away. Also a lot of people dont do this but i ve been told by keeping your car on cement for a long period of time sittin can create a lot of rust on the under body. So I put a tarp down on my stuff.

Indeed. I've heard also that allowing the tires to rest on cement or concrete will draw the moisture out of the tires and cause them to dry out and crack. I heard a good thing to do to prevent this is to put your car on wooden planks or lay a tarp under the thing to prevent the rubber from making direct contact with the pavement.

Aye it's all about the Stabil.
Rats did move into my vette two winters ago. Mother******* ate my climate control wires and some vac hoses. So that's good advice on the traps and maybe the mothballs. |

Traps aren't a good idea, as the mice or rats will die inside the car and I reckon something decomposing over a period of four to six months ain't anything that smells good. Some sites are instead recommending a type of rat poison which basically dehydrates the animal without killing it, sending it looking for some water and keeping it away from the car.
