TC for Comp cam 231/247 617/624
Hey guys, could anyone tell me what size of TC I should get with a Comp cam 231/247 617/624? I don't really know much about TCs
Also what is you opinion on buying a fairly used TC? Thanks!

I would say at least a 3200.

3200 Minimum. Id go with a 3600-4000 if you are going to race the car at the track. The 3200 will not give you the 60' times you are looking for. I run a Circle D 4000 in my daily driver.
Regardless which converter you choose, be sure to install an external trans cooler. |

It's going to depend on how you use your car. If it's a DD with occasional drag strip appearances, i'd look to something that is very street friendly. Also know that the same stall TC from different vendors can be very different. Talk to shops that know about them and try to drive a few before you make up your mind.

3400-3600 if going with our triple disc. Takes 1-2 days to build it to match your goals and use. You wont regret it.
Drive like stock until you put your foot in it and allows lumpy cam idle. |

Also need to know that a 3x00 RPM stall from brand A converter company is not the same as from brand B. Its always good to call the converter company that you are buying from and tell them your mods, goals and driving wants so they can give you a recommendation. I would recommend FTI or Circle D.

Seems like TCs are more of custom product. Would going used be bad then? I figured i could save about $400-$500 and get a fairly used TC. Kind of working on a budget. I know I could wait till I got the money but its more of id rather spend 3500 on this project then 4000.

^^^ I bought a used Circle D and sent it back to Circle D and Chris fixed me up. He got with the shop I use and they opened it up and pretty much completely rebuilt it to spec.
I paid $500 for a Circle D multi disk stall and tci flex plate. It cost $325 to rebuild to spec. So $825 for spec'd stall and flex plate.

I agree 3200 would be bare minimum. I personally would run a 3200 on a stock cam lol.

Anyone have a vid of this cam, has to sound pretty sick with that big of a split.
@ OP, if you can try to drive a car with a converter if you've never had a bigger aftermarket one, to see if you like it. A Circle D 3200 can drive very nice, and you'll hardly notice it after a week. Their 3600 would do even better, but you are making a big move from the stock one which is like a 1600/1700. Ryan, is the one in your car ultimately a 4000, Jim @ Speed thought it might even be a bit bigger (though it would have been looser with stock gearing).

We have used that cam before in LS7's. I would suggest a Yank 3400 for that camshaft or a Vig3200. Feel free to give us a call and I can help answer any questions you may have.
