Break In

Some thoughts on break in -
Maybe 'cause the Camaro is new again and everybody wants touch one, (salesman that test out launch control, mechanics on prep rides, dealer principles cause they can, etc.) after a new Camaro has been through 5 or 6 "test drives" how can one be sure a recommended break in procedure would be effective? I'm not saying drive it like ya stole it but I think we can be quite sure the first drives after they arrive at our dealers are not going to be like the person paying the 35k. That being said how bout some ideas as to handling break in. Personally I will go through a 500 - 1000 mile period of varying speeds and loads then change oil and drive normal and change oil again at 3000.

Thats my point, IF thats how I want to break it in I don't think I'll be the first one. As a matter of fact a salesman explained "launch control" from his own experiance on a new for sale 2SS.

20+ dragstrip passes

650 miles and more than 20 passes down the drag strip already...time to change the oil.

I think I read somewhere the new Camaro comes with Mobile 1in the crankcase???
I think even the V6 has a large amount of oil in the crankcase?
What does GM recomend for the oil change time? Go by the computer? I know in my '06 that would be 7500+ miles. I have changed oil in it at 5000 since new.

If you have one on preorder .. work with your dealer so they know that you will be the one to drive the car and that you would prefer that no one else does ... that way you can break it in as you need.

SoFlaZ - The magazine doesn't want me publishing those numbers until the article comes out (early June) but I was happy with the results considering the time of day and how hot the engine was after the trip. And yes I went there planning no more than 6 passes or so...but it just does it so effortlessly it never felt like I was beating on it.
