looks great kendell!

You are right, the 3watt are 300% better than radio shack LEDs. I'll update this thread with pics of my 3watt setup in a couple weeks.

a bulb/LED like this is perfect, you just need to take it out of the casing. It has a built in 12v regulator

Thanks Chewy, have you returned from your tour? Definitely update us. I actually didn't use that bulb that you're going for. There's an easier way. Let me know if you got the bulb yet or not?

Not home quite yet...almost done

I actually got one bulb like that installed right before I left the states (never got a chance to snap a few pics though) and it worked perfectly. I have another one for the other door waiting to get put in.

yea, it has to be that far up to create the projection in focus. put it any closer and it gets blurry

this is exactly how it looks

Hmm. I found the opposite issue Chewy, that's why I designed my version all self contained and it sits on the inside of the door..

Its very possible the type of LED used would change the focal point. I know i adjusted and tested mine few dozen times to get it the best projection.

Something you COULD try to make it project more is to find a small flashlight and take the projector cone out of it and mount that inside the box with the LED at it's focal point. It would take a little bit of trial and error to get the LED set in at the focal point but it's certainly possible without much trouble. That way you don't have to worry about multiple sources because the cone is designed to project light from a point source.

JMHO

Very cool mod BTW

A parabolic reflector will give you multiple sources.

Seems like more people are catching on!

I got a lot of good response at a car show last weekend. Ran into a couple issues tho:

1. had to wait till after dark to show it off (nothing we can do about that)
2. Trying to KEEP them on...any ideas?

I currently have driver's side wired to the dome light, which works well for about 5 or 10 minutes. but the passenger is wired into the ABL, and goes off after about 30 seconds.

Unless you have the key in the ignition, but then the car beeps at you that the doors are open (to show the light).

someone smart (sick SS) suggestion car show door props, it should simulate the door being closed (no 'dummy' beep) while holding it open (keeping the lights on)

Thoughts? Ideas?
