My Dealers GM Rep provides information

For what it is worth......
My Chevy dealer called me today because his GM rep was at the his dealership today. She showed him a memo she had received from GM stating that they had expected a 50/50 split across the various models ordered. They expected 50% to be 2SS and the other 50% spread across the other offerings. So I think the 84/16 split is probably going to be a surprise to them. I don't know why it would be a surprise because GM should know that most Camaro enthusiasts would go for the 2SS. She said she suspected this would cause some production issues, but could not comment for definitively.

On another note....she also said that the white paint issue should be resolved by Jan/Feb of 2009.

As for the convertible, she did say that she has not heard/received any reports or rumblings that there would not be a Camaro convertible produced. She did say it would probably be delayed - about 12-18 months from now for ordering.

How true all of this is, who knows...but I thought I would pass it on.

An 84/16 split over the first 15-20k, maybe a problem. ...over the first 6k, I doubt it.

I think that is what the majority of us (who aren't jumping ship because the tub is overflowing) expected.

Sadly I doubt it will be enough to end the non-stop speculation.

obviously the first people to order are the enthusiasts who we know ordered SS's .

closer we get to production the more the models will level out.

white doesn't concern me, but good prospective for some people

Remember that the option to order a Camaro has only been around for the last 10 days or so. It's reasonable that the 1st ones to order would want the top dog.

Keep in mind the 84/16 is members on this site, which is mostly enthusiasts. Most of the other 5000+ Camaros ordered are not nesseccarily enthusiasts but maybe most are, we don't know. Has anyone seen the actual percentage of actual orders? Didn't think so. I seriously doubt the overall order split will be that high. I could be wrong, I admit I have not seen any official #s. Have you?

Do not listen to your dealer. There isn't a single employee at your dealership that is part of the GM decision-making process, so your dealer has no idea what GM is going to do with allocation. Moreover, making half of the allocation from the 2SS trim level would break with the logical path of producing more V6s because less people buy for the engine than we enthusiasts would usually like to believe. Most people who buy Camaros want a car that looks cool, drives well, is safe, and comes with a full complement of sheer badassery. Since the Camaro LS fills these standards, more than 50% of buyers will be V6s. I would expect the split to be closer to 60-40 (very V8-optimistic) or 70-30 (much more likely).

As usual, with my-your-dealer-sucks message, I will post my list of the most well-known and reliable Camaro5 users. As usual, other users are very reliable, but these are the ones that really stand out to me.

I apologize for my ignorance, but what is the issue with the white paint? Also, has anyone heard or has some insight as to why GM isn't offering blue on the SS. I know it's a dead horse that's been thoroughly beaten, but I'm just curious.

The white issue has been explained. Basically, this white is whiter than the current whites offered by GM. In effect, GM is waiting for this white to be available for all cars. Since the 2010 Camaro is being released ridiculously early for any 2010 model, it will have to wait till other 2010 models come out. Expect the white Camaro to make an appearance in the summer.

There is no explanation for not offering blue. Maybe that will change in 2011 or later in 2010.
