20% is the best way to go. Maybe a tad bit darker in the back window like maybe 15%.

Here are a few pics of mine...it is 35% which I opted for since limit is 32% here...either this or 20% and cops here looks for anything to pull you over!
Depending how the sun is hitting it, it looks darker than the pics. I like it. With the small windows I am not sure I would want anything darker...If you aren't worried about tickets get 20%...or close to your legal limit.

Each state has different laws about tint. WA is 35%. I went with 35%, but added to the factory smoke, it's something like 28% - no probs with the cops yet, but it's borderline, so make sure you know your local laws.

not to hijack the thread but for those who have had this done already how much did it cost? I have gotten quotes anywhere from $115 to $200. I am doing this to protect my interior when it gets ungodly hot.

Here is a link to the type I got. It filters out UV & reduces heat in yout car. You can even get legal coating for the windshield. Not many places install it as yet and it is considerably more expensive, but it is not supposed to fade, bubble, etc & has a lifetime warranty. I love mine. All tint on mine is legal in TN. Here's a pic:

My local guy charges $165 or so and does an excellent job. But legal here in NC is 35% and that's all he will do. The state boys are really cracking down on that stuff here. Budgets getting tighter they wanna write as many tickets as they can I guess lol

Mine was $220 including the strip on the front window that is 20%. Mine is also the UV absorbing tint...it was only $20-30 more than non UV absorbing. I can tell it blocks a lot of the heat...that was important to me being in south GA.

I would recommend staying at the legal limit. Here its 35 for the front and sides, rear windshield and backseat windows you can go down to 5 percent. I was worried about visibility issues at night with the 5 percent, so I went with 35 up front and 20 back and got the strip at the top 5 percent since our visors suck. Plenty dark and my car stays cool in the Arizona heat.
You could probably get away with going a shade darker than your states limit. In some states ive heard of cops that have devices that can measure your tint level and also do tint checks when you get your emissions done. Not sure if thats accurate or not, but if you go really really dark its not worth the tickets or fines and its just another reason to pull you over. |
