If your CA6 #s hold up, the reasons the new SS could compete with the more track oriented 1LE on a track would be that extra speed, lighter weight and a stiffer chassis. I would guess the 1LE has better track tires and a more neutral suspension setup with equal tires all the way around. The new SS may be faster, but would it be as much fun? Even if the CA6 SS bests the 5th gen 1LE on a track, I can see why some would hold out for the next 1LE (if it is coming). And I would bet even if the CA6 is faster, the better track time would go to the better driver. With your numbers at the drag strip the new SS would destroy 5th gen 1LEs. Especially the CA6 automatics.

I did infact make a typo 12.5-12.7...was supposed to be 12.7-12.9@110-112mph my apologies. Motor trend has done head to head tests on non prepped surfaces and over the years managed 12.7-13.0 with manual SS or SS1LE cars in 2010 the SS went up against a GT500 in that comparison the GT500 went 12.8@118mph and the SS went 12.9@110.7....and yes SS camaros can and do run high 12's if a heavier G8 GT can run 13.5-13.7 with an auto and less hp and the GXP with 415hp does 12.9@109mph then you would be silly to doubt an SS stock in the mid to upper 12's I can post links or pictures if needed or look yourself via youtube/motortrend 2009-2010 test 2012-2013test 2014-2015test. Every SS tested ran sub13sec 1/4's on NON drag prepped surfaces.

One other thing I found out for those who think the $4000 base 1ss over base gt is to much. There is a long list, but one last thing is base GT doesn't get the drive modes either, even with the PP package. Where the 1ss does.

Order the same GT with the performance package and it's still $1605 less than the SS. |

You are correct. The drive modes are standard on ALL Camaros, even the base 4 banger 1LT (except TRACK mode - SS only).

I just priced a 2ss bk/bk, m6 and nav. And it came to $42790. Priced the GT premium with PP, BLIS, and nav and it came to $42285. Pretty much identicle features other then HUD. So for $500 more you get 20hp and 55tq more, HUD, and you can get the NPP option.

I just curious, does anybody know the power loss (hard numbers-not speculation) if lower octane premium is used on the GT (if any)? |

On the road between 93 to 91 octane you probably won't even notice. But on a Dyno you may see a 3-5hp loss.

I didn't read this whole thing but the price did shock me a little and I have to give my .02 after stewing about it for a week. I do believe GM did do its homework and priced it in a way where you are getting exactly what you pay for vs the competition. However I think they messed up big time by not making some of the standard options optional. $4-5k difference over the GT? Come on man. Its actually going to be more than that in the real world this next year. Ford dealers will continue to offer up to and beyond $5k off msrp on the GT while GM dealers won't budge much on pricing. I fear for the F body a little. Yes, its a faster, better car with more features but some, including me, are going to have a difficult time swallowing a $5k (minimum) price difference. I'm sure the SS is going to soundly beat the GT but my gosh, damn near $40k for a 1SS with the only option being a 8 speed vs a GT premium automatic that can be had for $35k sounds a little ridiculous to me right now. Buying a first year car completely went out the window for me. I'll have to wait at least a year to see if dealers are discounting them.

When is the last time you got 5k off a mustang that did not have a huge rebate from the factory. I think everyone is discounting the mustang for this argument much more then it actually is discounted
