Water Spots !!!!
Ok, so when I hosed the car down the other day to get the bird dropping off the car, when it dried it left water spots on the car. So we decided to wash the car last night with Meguiars Gold car wash and then I completely dried the car with the Absorber chamois. However some of the water spots are still on the car. Just for info, the car was waxed the day before I hosed it down. Have I destroyed her paint? Will a wax job take care of these spots? Just a note, the car had been waxed by her dealer, so there was wax on the car when I sprayed it down to get the bird droppings off.

Depends. If you live in a place with hard water it could of hurt it. I lived in NJ with well water and it was hard and did all kinds of damage to cars.
Lets put it this way, alot of plumbing in houses in south Jersey have to be replaced every 10 years or so since the hard water will disolve the copper pipes. I am so glad I moved to Alabama!!!! |

use the new ice soap. Also waxing a vehicle with cleaner wax will get rid of this and will prevent in the future. quick detailer will get rid of it too

The paint is not ruined.
Water spots will not ruin paint. Worst case, wash it with some dawn soap, dry really well, re-wax. Should take care of it. |

you do realize dawn strips all any wax you do have on a car. Its really not reccomend for car washing. With that said I do use it once a year to get a nice sudsy bath and get all the gunk off and then wax it. But if you use dawn every time its not a good idea.

Turtle Wax makes a product called Ice Spray Detailer. Works wonders on water spots, dirt marks, and light scratches.

Dawn that "small area" where you have water spots - it will remove them. Then rewax that area - completely - several coats, etc. Good to point out though, since not everyone knows that. |

thats what i am referring to, and thought you were but a lot of people dont know. I have talked to people who only use that, and had to point out to them that its not rreally suppose to be used on your car, its a harsh detergent. But let your right if you want to get a good clean car and strip it of everything use dawn

1. Clay bar the entire car to remove water spots. 2. When rinsing the car NEVER use the hose sprayer. Remove the sprayer and rinse with the water stream. This will remove the surface tension and create sheeting action. This will reduce most of the water beading, making drying easier and eliminating water spots. THIS WORKS BEST FOR ME. 3. If your area has particularly hard water GROIT'S garage has a water softener cartridge you can add to your hose. It's not cheap. It is item # 37244. It runs a little over $100. It might help to add a little "Calgon" water softener to your wash bucket. Let me know if this helps. Last edited by Al Robinson; 06-15-2009 at 09:59 AM. |
