what is the proper way to clean a california duster? The website says it works better when its dirty and your not supposed to clean it....I am not buying that but wanted to ask...mine is super dirty after a few weeks of everyday use.

Buy one especially on dark cars. Best thing I ever bought for my car!

They are great if used correctly. Check out Junkman's proper use of waterless wash videos so your not grinding the dust into your finish. Yes he shows you how to use a california duster

Buy it, or buy a new one when you feel that yours is too dirty. I have 2 that haven't been washed in years (and will never be washed), and they work perfectly fine. The manufacturer knows their product. Follow their recommendations. Not following their recommendations is why so many people scratch the hell out of their paint with the CA Duster.

Like the Junkman said...they work fine. I'd be lost without mine. Make sure you don't keep it in the bag it comes in. Hang it up so that the bristles hang directly down. Don't spray anything on it, don't wash it (its treated), and just ever-so-gently touch the surface (if the bristles are bent over,,,you are putting too much pressure).

Have fun.

It's true, the dirtier they get the better they work. I've been using the same one since 2002!

I have one, and have not washed it but I find it deposits wax-like streaks on the car (used it on the black '68 for dust it gathered in the garage).

Don't know if I'm doing something wrong or what.

Did you soak it on newspapers for 24 hours as the instructions say to do when new?

I don't recall seeing those instructions. Maybe I should just buy a new one.

If you follow the manufacturer's instructions and don't apply pressure(just let weight of duster do the work), it works great

Not to hijack the thread, but has anyone else tried washing their duster?

I throw mine in the wash with my microfibers, but do not dry it in the Dryer.
After washing, I put it back on the wand and let it hang dry for a day or two,
then I give it a liberal coating of Endust or Pledge. The instructions says that
it is coated with 'a special paraffin wax' by the manufacturer. Obviously washing
will remove the wax so I try to reinvigorate with Endust or Pledge. After spraying,
I let it hang for a day or two to allow it to dry out. I have a couple dusters and
try to rotate them.

It seems to work pretty well and I'm at ease knowing that I don't have a duster
that is dirty black and full of dust, dirt and grime.

Thanks for posting - great videos by AJ - I'm now a new fan and Adam's customer. Should be mandatory viewing for every Car owner let alone Camaro owners!
