Shifter question..

I have a 2010 SS LS3 and 3 years ago I swapt out the stock shifter for A MGW shifter Well, I've since developed some bad wrist arthritis and have had surgery. The MGW shifter is chunky and is becoming difficult and painful to drive due to my condition. Does anyone know of a smooth after market shifter for the SS? I like the stock ZL1 shifter, maybe someone has driven that and could give me some feedback on feel? Any other ideas would be greatly appriciated.
Thanks.

Try a weighted ball on it. Maybe a different style knob

I put a Hurst on my 2011 and it was like your present shifter. The factory ZL1 shifter is very smooth. I don't think I would change it even if someone gave me an aftermarket shifter.

It's more of a notchy tranny in my car than the actual shifter. 2nd gear grind unless hot but still notchy

Great thanks. I was hoping someone with a Zl1 woukd chime in. I really don't want to sell the car or switch to Auto and I like the look of the ZL1 shifter knob. Just a couple of questions.

Does the Zl1 still feel notchy? ( not sure if the ZL1 and SS share the same tranny)
How is the zl1 throw compared to the hurst?
Thank you.

Do you have the ZL1 shifter in your car? I'm a little worried it's just the way tranny in the SS is.

Whether the tranny is notchy or clunky is going to be subjective. And whether said notchiness or clunkiness is a problem is going to be subjective.

As for the throws, both the ZL1/1LE throw and the upgraded factory short throw shifter have a 22% reduction over the standard SS shifter. The MGW is a 33% reduction over the standard SS shifter, and the Hurst is a 44% reduction.

Frankly, if the MGW is bothering you physically, you might consider just putting the stock shifter back in. Generally, the shorter the throw, the more physical force needed. So, the factory standard shifter will be sloppier but, in theory, easier to negotiate.

OP, when I changed the transmission fluid to Redline D4 AFT, the shifting became so much smoother. I know that we have different transmissions, but that may be something to look into.

OP,

I totally agree with the guy below. I think you should either go back to stock or with the 1LE/ZL1 shifter (best compromise between shorter throws and overal smooth effortless operation).

I absolutely love the way my 1le shifter feels compared to all the other aftermarket shortshifters I have had in previous performance cars. Alcantara knob an all.

My ZL1 is not notchy or clunky. Very smooth. I don't know if some of that is due to improvements in the transmissions or if it is all in the shifter.
I also agree that a longer shift lever gives more leverage and is easier to shift. I learned that after I put a short shift lever on a hurst shifter in a 4th gen.
