1st Oil Change

Hello guys my 1st oil change is coming up on my 17 SS
I have been seeing the car holds 10 quarts oil filler cap says Dexos 5W-30. Is this correct?

Am I being punked? Yes the 5-30 listed on your cap is correct, you could also use 0-40 for your first oil change after six years.

Follow the oil weight and specification as listed in the owner's manual. IMO, verify what the oil filler cap says on any vehicle. It may or may not be correct.

First oil change on a '17, huh? In my book you're only about 7 oil changes overdue based on time alone, but hey, it's your car.

Haha...welcome to the party, pal! You've come to the right place.

Specified capacity is 10 quarts with filter change.

Plot twist: OP pops the drain bolt from the oil pan and nothing but black goop comes out, time to find the previous owner and hit him with a giant stick

You can either use 5w30 or the current 0w40 spec oil as long as it is Dexos2 certified.

Also, get 11 quarts as I have found that 10 quarts doesn't always get the oil level where it should be. Can take .5 or so extra.

I would advise against putting in more than 10 quarts, especially on a regular basis. Every (stock) LT1 / LT4 engine has the exact same capacity of 10 quarts, there is no need to second guess this and risk an overfill.
