Cost of new factory ECF hood insert

What is the approximate cost of a new, factory ZL1 exposed carbon fiber hood insert? I presume this piece would be ordered from the dealership?

Would the dealership do the replace of the factory insert with the ECF insert and generally speaking is this within their ability to do the job well?

Thanks

$2956.30 at GM Parts direct, or buy a new ZL1 and get it for only $600

What's wrong with the original ECF insert? If you're within your 3/36 warranty, you should be able to have them fix it at no cost to you.

If you're not in a warranty situation, and you just want to buy an ECF to replace your painted carbon fiber one, they can do that for you.

But it's not cheap. $4604 list price, but you can get one shipped to you by gmpartsdirect.com for around $3547.

Or buy used. You can usually find them for 50% of new or less.

Ebay is your friend I have seen brand new ones go as low as $700 hell you can pick up a brand new ZL1 hood SLP/SVP in NJ for $1900 w/ ECF insert.

3 OEM ZL1 inserts (2 ECF, and 1 AGM) that sold on Ebay a few months back (2 in March, and 1 in May) 2 brand new and 1 take off in mint condition.

That price seems too good to be true. I wonder if it's a wrap over fiberglass or plastic. Their page does say Carbon Fiber "Infused", not sure what that means.

What is Carbon Fiber Infusion?
On October 1, 2012
There is a lot of confusion and misinformation in the Carbon Fiber market and this article will try to explain to our customers the rather large differences between various products, most specifically between Wet Lay Carbon Fiber and Carbon Fiber Infusion.

Most products on the market labeled as Carbon Fiber actually only has a tiny bit of Carbon in it. The products are usually almost entirely made of Fiberglass and has just 1 sheet of Carbon Fiber on the outside to make it have the Carbon Fiber look. What this does is reduce costs tremendously for the manufacturers. But what does this mean for the consumers?

Wet Lay Carbon Fiber is immensely heavier than a Carbon Fiber Infusion part.

It is also exponentially weaker.

The bottom line is most so called “Carbon Fiber” products on the marketplace are nothing more than lower quality fiberglass pieces wrapped in a single layer of actual Carbon in order to achieve a similar look with none of the benefits of high grade Carbon Fiber.

At WestCoastProjects, we absolutely do not make Wet Lay Carbon Fiber products. All our parts are infused and are either 100% pure Carbon Fiber or explicitly described as to how much of the product is made of another composite material.

This makes WestCoastProjects parts significantly lighter and stronger than the industry standard.

The reason as to why we chose to produce all our products in AMERICA and in house was so that we can manufacture parts of the highest quality, to keep quality control in check, and to make sure we are 100% sure of what we’re selling to our customers.

Apparently "infused" is the best!

Thanks for showing the write up. Good info. Trufiber uses infused so for $400 it's worth a try. I did some searching on the forum and found someone got one of these and didn't have any issues. I just placed my order, so we will see how it goes. I've got CF rockers, diffuser, spoiler, splitter, fog light inserts, under hood CF, but the one thing that should have been CF from the factory is painted, haha. Hopefully this fixes that.

I am in the same boat. I have been adding CF items to my car for a while but the insert is painted. I think I will give this one a try also.
