if anyone is looking for a magnetic drainplug for 2010 camaro. the dealer or after market companies do not now what you are talking about you need one for a 2005 avalanche picked one up at the local parts store .for 5.50 also i drained my oil and all that came out was7.5 quarts it calls for 8quarts with filter .. if anyone needs the exact part number let me know all i know it was 1inch 3/4 long with 15mm socket to unscrew fyi. also if early oil change .any other particles will go right to the magnet and it wouldnt have been a waste of time changing oil early

Good find. Thanks for sharing.
No, of course you are not going to get the full 8qt to drain from the engine. The filter itself, depending on its size, will have at least .25 qt. then there's oil in the galleys, passages, etc. etc. that will not drain out or will take forever to flow out if you wait. Don't even sweat that. Warm up, shut down, check your oil level to make sure it is good and you are golden. Magnet or not, it is always a good idea to change the oil after running a fresh engine a few hundred miles. |

For all that have easier access to NAPA here is a cross to their part number.
NAPA #704-1903 this is a M12 x 1.75 drain plug with magnet and a new rubber gasket. $6.29 + tax in Florida. I have one but not yet installed. waiting for the 500 miles and an oil and filter change. |

I will have to get one of these, I have a hard drive magnet near the bolt right now and when I drain I pull the magnet off so all metal flakes flow out. However, can't really see what is caught while a magnetic bolt you can see how much in the way of metal shavings you are getting.
Thanks for the info!
