How often do you floor the accelerator?
So I thought the other day that I should probably lay off my car a bit for durability's sake. I take the SS out maybe for 3 or 4 trips per weekend, and floor the throttle on average 5 times each trip, so that's about 15-20 times per week.
I have no mods other than a Corsa exhaust, so I'm not pushing the kind of power some of you are, but still, I'm putting more wear on my drivetrain components than someone who drives their car less hard. What about you guys? |

Some days I cruise in her and others I drive her like a bat outta hell. I would say I average 15-30 times per week where I mash it. I mash it for different reasons though. Those reasons range from just for fun to being in a bad mood to passing those who are going extra slow in the fast lane.

Define Flooring it? Do you Mash the accelerator down to the ground and burn rubber, chirp thru the gears? Because then your car will be taking abuse and things will break. No big deal if your mechanically enclined or are under warranty. If you engage your clutch in a positive way without burning rubber, and run the car thru the gears close to redline then you wont break anything.

I usually floor it from a roll, maybe start 15-25 mph. I know there are different ways to "floor" it, but I didn't want to over-complicate the poll. I try not to floor it from a dead stop because the impact loads are harder on the drivetrain. |

It's meant to be driven. Hard. Don't feel bad for having fun with the car.
If you don't intend to keep the car for more than 100k, then have a ball. If you want this to be a "forever" car (if such thing exists anymore)....well...expect that you're going to have to put some big money into it at some point if you don't cool your jets. First, tires aren't cheap. And neither is a transmission rebuild. That might impact your driving style now, or maybe not. All depends on your perspective. |

Me????
I would NEVER 'floor it'......... X eleventybillion.............. I have to share a story....... .......some of you know that "Mom Settlemire" happens to be 87 years young.......and will never stop driving Camaros....... My brother has been quite ill over the past year - and the Docs want him to go for therapy - but he does not want to drive that far. I said to him: "Get Mom to take you! It gives her something to do!" He said: "No Way! She scares the hell outta me!" I said ".....now wait a minute - I followed her to the dealership to get her Camaro detailed the last time I was in Pittsburgh.....she drives JUST FINE......." ......and he retorted with: "......she drives fine, the problem is that each time a light turns green....SHE PUNCHES IT!..........." True story! Here's a pic of her posing with her beloved Camaro..........

Despite popular assumptions of people my age and gender. I rarely do punch it. Once a week at most for about 2 seconds while enter a part of a neighborhood where nothing is and clear view of the corner ahead where I will not endanger anyone.

I usually give her hell once a trip. It's what the car was made to do.

I drive on the highway a lot, so mashing the accelerator pedal is necessary when passing idiots in the left lane.
