Working on the ZL1 yourself?

Is the ZL1 so computerized that the average person can no longer work on it such as do engine swaps or change out heads?

I have always worked on older cars without all the computerized stuff although I have enough funds to buy myself a specialized computer software for working on the ZL1 if they have it available for weekend warriors.

That is something that I have missed working on cars on weekends and now I have the time, but I have never worked on Modern performance cars. And for the record after I get a New ZL1 I will touch it until it out of Warranty 100K miles, and for me that is about 3 years. Lastly, if the 2015 ZL1 is the same as the 2014 ZL1 I will save the change and get a 2014.

Other than a couple of exterior color changes, the 2015 ZL1 is essentially unchanged from 2014. Probably can still be found in what you want, but the hiatus and orders are WAY down from 2013.

I am waiting for a public showing of the car, the 2015 ZL1 just to be safe. If it is the same then why buy a 2015 I'll just get a great deal on the 2014 that they need to move to make room for the 2015.

Depending on your skill set, tools/equipment and desire.. it can be relatively straight forward to work on these cars or completely frustrating. Certain installs are easy like CAI and headers; while tearing into the engine requires a hardy soul with the right tools. Once again, it depends on you more than anything. If you plan on going the entire warranty period without modding; I would just drive the car as is and enjoy it.

For the first 100K miles I am not touching the motor. But it will only take me 3 years to pass 100K miles and after that then it becomes weekends warrior project.

Ordering guide's already out. Looked it over and you're pretty much a year different all said and done. Doubt they'll change that much at this point.

in some ways the LS motors are more user friendly than the old school small blocks. You must follow special procedures to prevent problems such as oil leaks, etc.
