GM to experiment selling cars on ebay

http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/10/g...tors/#comments

I guess that gets rid of ADM.

if this is the beginning of direct selling then yipee! Most enthusiasts know exactly what they want and don't need the middle man. This will also cause delaerships to smarten up. Now they will have to prove they offer the customer something extra for the added fees.

Did we get to GM? Are they now paying attention to what a lot of customers want? I hope direct sales are right around the corner. All GM really needs is "GM Service Centers" across the nation, a place to pickup your online purchase, and a place to take it to when service is needed.

“GM CEO Fritz Henderson told CNBC Friday that the new GM must succeed and he said that he believes that the company will do just that. The company now will focus more on customers, including a partnership with eBay to test auctioning vehicles online. The new GM will also build more cars and trucks that consumers want and launch them faster than in the past, the CEO said.”

So this means GM can now go against franchise laws that protect dealers..Will there be an ebay fee or will it be subsidized?

It sounds like it will be used for cars that are already built. I don't think custom ordering will be available, at least not at first. Hopefully that will change, I'd love to order my camaro direct from GM.

You need to remember that it is now Government Motors, and if Obama see it is in the best interest to bypass franchise laws - he is your man!

No, really getting rid of those laws would be in the consumers best interest.

"Customers will be able to bid on actual vehicles just like they do in an eBay auction, including the option of choosing a predetermined 'Buy It Now' price... we'll be testing this and other ideas with our dealers over the next few weeks, and hope to expand and build upon them in the coming months... in all cases, our goal is to make the shopping and buying process as easy as possible for GM customers - on their time and their terms. Stay tuned."

I guess GM can break the rules when THEY want to break them. What happened to all the different "50" state franchise laws? I said it the whole time on numerous threads here. Allocation does NOT apply when GM takes hold of the order info like they did with the RP6 program (proof was the welcome kit from GM not dealer.) So they can do direct now like they always could.

GM has a new program and agreement with EBay for GM dealers to put cars on the auction site. I'm guessing this new initiative is what this refers to.

Sorry, you can't get rid of me THAT EASY!!!
