What a pathetic dealership.
They have up on their website main page that it is not their fault but the employees fault.
Man up and admit it was YOUR employee and you let him do this by not locking up keys and gating the premises with cars, or were those keys in the open too so he could move them out of the way.
Hope they get what they deserve.
And I hope John gets what he deserves too, a new car plus expenses.

I'm not talking about someone else, I'm talking about you linking to a source for the information. I'm telling you and I would just as well tell anyone else. But so far it's just you.

It does matter, because you need to think about other innocent people more.

I'm not on the other forum. I'm on this forum. I'm telling you that you should not even mention anything about his personal details or where to find them.

If you don't understand why what you did was thoughtless and disrespectful, I can try to explain it further or you can wait. It will come around to you eventually.

Did it occur to you I don't care what you have to say? It's in the open for all to see. It's called social networking and public knowledge. I pointed it out. If you had half a brain you could see that. And I really could careless about the individual whom stole the car. Thieves deserve what they get coming to them. If if it was your car you'd probably have feelings of an ill manner towards the guy. Don't tell me I am thoughtless or disrespectful because in reality I don't care about that dirtbag or his well being.

I have been watching this from the start and have seen it steadily escalating...... It is one thing to harass the dealership, but I noticed that the idiots that left their comments on facebook didn't mention that what they did was post an ignorant comment under the picture of a cute 10 year old boy who is running a 5K and doing a ocean plunge to raise money for the special Olympics. So instead of hurting the dealership, what you DID do was HURT a 10 year old child who has been working his heart out to help his cousin and friend who are autistic and in the special Olympics. I know this is a terrible thing that has happened to all parties with this car but we as human beings really need to stop and think before we do things and exactly who we will be affecting when we do these things. I hope hurting a 10 year old who is just out to help others has made who ever wrote that post feel like a real man :(

I'm going to give you a benefit of the doubt and assume you aren't a troll so I'll entertain you with a response. I doubt the 10 year old will ever read any of that. And the only comment on there asked if he'd be happy when they wrecked his truck into a poll. (I laughed and doubt that he'd be hurt over that.) But that is awesome that the kid is doing that. There may have been more, but most comments were deleted instantly anywhere on the page. My personal favorite was someone asking if they had any all wheel drive vehicles. Trolls will be trolls. Find a sense of humor. The dealership is "trying to resolve the problem" but in this day and age if you screw up bad enough it's going to get out there. A lot of businesses forget that. I can 100% guarantee that when this happened they figured the worst that would happen is that the issues would go local. They didn't think it would go national and viral like it did. I've been screwed over by dealerships in the past and their responses are usually "not our problem." Is the dealership getting what they deserve? Maybe, maybe not. I'd be seeing if I could sue the rogue employee if I owned that dealership though over the amount of bad PR he created. (I'm not a lawyer so that may not be possible.)

If the car is totaled, Isn't your insurance company going to reimburse you the market value of the car?

To me it's no different than if someone stole the car from in front of your house and totaled it. Your insurance company should reimburse you the fair market value of the car and then go after the dealership's insurance to get their money back.

If the dealership had any decency, it would pay the difference between what your insurance reimburses and the cost of a new ZL1.

Like others have suggested, get yourself a good lawyer and be patient. This could take a while to settle.
I never sign a paper when I drop the car off, only when I pick it up. Do you?

Here's the problem with all the people saying go after the piece of trash that stole the car: He is a piece of trash with no money. He is in his 40's, lives in a trailer park and has bounced from job to job his entire life (public info. obtained from the internet). You will get NOTHING from him. Years ago, my wife and I were out at a bar and some drunken goofball decided to cold-cock me with a beer bottle in the side of the head. My brain was swollen against my skull, I couldn't speak for days and was out of work for 3 months. Guess what I got? Nothing. He was a piece of trash that had nothing...so sue him for what? His old, sweaty gym socks? The dealer is responsible for this because it was their employee and he was given access to the building by management. This is the dealer's problem. Period.

New article: http://capegazette.villagesoup.com/p...camaro/1098871
It's been three weeks since an car dealership employee totaled Debbie and John Hooper's sports car. They're out a car and still making payments on it, and now they doubt the dealership will ever get them a limited-edition Camaro similar to the pristine collectible they once owned.

“We're not asking for a million dollars, we're really not,” said John Hooper of Long Neck, a published author on Camaros who says they are his passion.

In November, John and his wife Debbie took their 2012 Camaro ZL1 to First State Chevrolet of Georgetown to fix an ongoing paint problem. That was the last time they would ever drive the car.

On Dec. 16, the dealership called to inform them a joy-riding employee had taken the sports car out for a spin Dec. 15 and crashed it on Zoar Road.

Now, the Hoopers said, they are just trying to get a car comparable to the brand new vehicle they purchased in 2012 and had meticulously cared for.

“The fact of the matter is we bought the car as a collectible car,” Debbie said. “It was going to go to our granddaughter, and it may have even paid for a year of college.”

Two Camaros the dealership offered as replacements are not comparable to what they lost, John said.

The latest was the same year and model but had 3,000 miles more, and it's wheels were less expensive than those on the original car. Even with a $4,000 cash offering, he said, it didn't compare with what they lost. Then Debbie found out from a Camaro website that the car had previously had two different owners and had been involved in an accident. They definitely weren't interested after that, she said.

First State salesman Chuck Ricker said he's tried to find a car to replace the one totaled by the dealership employee.

“It's a terrible tragedy, and they should be put back where they were,” he said.

Following the crash that totaled the Hoopers' car, Delaware State Police charged Eric Peterson, 42, of Georgetown with careless driving and failure to have insurance identification in possession. Debbie Hooper said police told her that she could not file theft or any other criminal charges against Peterson because the car was in the dealership's possession at the time of the accident.

Bob Hansen, co-owner of First State Chevrolet, said Peterson also would be charged with unauthorized use. A magistrate judge told Hansen that Peterson could not be charged with theft because he was a dealership employee with a key, Hansen said. Peterson no longer works at the dealership, he said.

“He's going to be charged with as much as we could charge him with,” Hansen said.

In 2012, Hansen said the Hoopers bought the brand new, limited-edition vehicle from First State for about $56,000. At the time of the accident, he said, the vehicle had about 10,000 miles on it.

Hansen said he feels confident that there are models with comparable mileage available to replace the Hoopers' car, and he wants to help them find a replacement.

“But if they want to go up to a brand new 2014, it's going to cost them something,” he said. “They're not going to get a brand new car.”

After determining the Camaro was totaled, the Hooper's Geico adjuster estimated the car was worth $44,176 – a much lower price than the nearly $60,000 the couple paid.

Hansen said he has liability insurance, but would not comment on whether that would cover any of the expenses incurred when the Hoopers' car was in the dealership's care.

“I have no further comment,” he said. “We're still negotiating.

In the meantime, Debbie Hooper said they continue to make payments on a vehicle they will never drive again.

She said they met with an attorney this week, but was told they are entitled to no pain and suffering, lawyer or court costs.

“It's going to end up costing us more money if we go forward with the attorney,” she said.

The Hoopers said they have been driving a loaner car from First State with a cracked windshield since their car went in for the paint problem. While they said they appreciate the loaner vehicle, they would rather have their old car back.

“We're losing sleep over this, time off for work and this still isn't resolved,” John Hooper said. “This is so ethically and morally wrong it isn't funny.”

Really ... call me what you want.... my only issue is posting on a child's picture about an issue that doesn't concern him.... you have the whole rest of the page to post any feelings or comments you may have but did you REALLY need to do it on the child's pic ?????? Just becuz I just joined doesn't mean I don't know about the issue..... that is not what I am commenting about.... I haven't sided either way except for the poor child who is trying to raise money for a good cause. He may not see it or understand what is going on but he DOES NOT need to be involved....
