Spent hours today comparing
Hey all, I have been lurking for sometime now. I know that many of you don't really like newbies but I thought I would post some info that I gathered. I have seen a lot of complaints about todays price announcements. I spent a lot of time comparing with other cars and trying to compare apples to apples.
I compared a 2LT/RS package (MSRP $28780) to the following: RX-8 GT = 238 HP, 22/25 mpg, 6 speed man, 18" wheels, leather, blue tooth MSRP $32,218 350 Z Touring = 306 HP, 18/25 mpg, 6 speed man 18" wheels, leather MSRP $34,750 WRX Prem (STI starts at $34,000+) = 265 HP, 5 speed man, 17" wheels, AWD MSRP $29,368 I stopped writing down the numbers but even the Honda Accord coupe, VW R32 and Nissan Altima Coupe are more money comparably equipped. Just thought it was interesting. |

Hey! Don't say that! We love newbies! Welcome to Camaro5!!
...It's the trolls, and the spammers we don't like..... On to your research...that's some great stuff! And a testimonial to the kind of value the V6 Camaro represents. It would be even more interesting if you could gather performance specs for those cars...(0-60, 1/4 miles, etc) I know the LT/RS may not beat all of them...but for ~$5,000 difference between some of them, you could make up the difference for less $$ in mods. On a side note...I think the Hyundai Genesis was going to try and use the marketing of "the least expensive 300hp car on the planet" at some $26 grand. ....I think Chevy effectively killed that for them. :flag2: |

i know it may seem crazy but even I was a noob once. but i quickly grew out of it....
your research is just more confirmation that all the people saying OMG ITS SO MUCH are not informed on what things cost in the real world.

Yeah the trim in the Suby is a bit on the weak side. However its LOADS better then the 08.
damn i wish my old car woulda lasted longer. However i do have to say, it will be interesting to see how the Camaro stands up to the WRX in the snow. |

No that's not fair, really a rally intended design versus a track intended design in the snow, I call foul.

I get the same snow you do and it sucks to drive in on the rare occasions we get enough to actually effect the roads. Seriously in Manitoba and other places were the snow comes in colder weather it doesn't form compacted ice and actually gives much more traction than our snow does. ut just don't drive in it those couple days out of the year, then again I;ve driven in the snow in a pickup so the camaro shouldn't be a problem at all. Especially with traction control and abs which the pickup had neither of, hell it barely had a clutch fun.

I input the Camaro data today, which should help a lot with price and features comparisons.

Yeah, um it took one Seahawks game and ice to cause 18 hour backups on I-5..... Washington needs practice in the snow.

"Recapping what we previously reported, the Evo Special Edition represents the final round of updates to the Evolution IX bodystyle. With its price set at $33,249, this new trim grade includes the aluminum roof shared with the Evo RS and MR, a new front lip extension, lightweight 17" BBS wheels finished in a "Diamond Black" look, red-stitched Recaros, and HID headlamps." I paid $700 under that price 18 months ago... and remember, this is a car with no power seats or cruise control, pos factory am/fm cd something. It's basically a shell (with a lot of aluminum body panels) strapped to an awd platform with a turbo. I know the first thing that comes to mind when we think of Camaro counterparts are Mustards and such, but the truth is compared to other cars in the price range, the Camaro comes out on top in quite a few categories. And in all honesty I think that the early indications are that this is going to be a pleasure to "ride and drive" car. In a perfect world I would spend the extra cash on a Z06, but I have tried numerous times to fit the car seat in the trunk... and it just doesn't look right. |
