Yes, I agree 100%.
We shouldn't need keys, just a proximity sensor. My 2010 Nissan Armada has a small key fob that you keep in your pocket and you never need to pull it out. Just push start and off you go! Keys are outdated.

A good start would be to have the key hole up on the dash where it belongs rather than on the column. Then we could get a push to start insert - just like the dodge boys have. On the dash and everything. Don't like the push to start - remove the "button" insert and presto a key hole for ya...

seems pointless to me....if i still have to carry anything(key fob)
then whats the point...i would prefer just a regular good ole key that would fit on my key chain with all the other keys... |

Do not want. Had the passive entry/push button on a Vette and had multiple problems. Adds too much complexity and potential for problems both with the car and user error. Corvettes have been plagued with dead battery problems for years and a complex entry/start system just adds to those problems.
Plus the hassle of what do you do with the keys while your driving. Put them in a bag that you forget in the car. Passenger walks away with the keys while you drive off with no way to restart the car after shut off. Keys wind up in golf bag in the back. Loan the car to someone, then expect a half a dozen calls throughout the day asking how to... Give me a key, key fob, key cylinder in the door, manual door handle.... and I'm happy. All that high tech entry and start crap is just way too problematic. |

I honestly don't care either way. Would be a cool feature, but I definitely don't "have to have it".
You can think of it as using a key goes with some of the other retro themes of the car |

I want it.
I think the pushbutton start is kinda cool, even knowing all the heeadaches that can come along with it. Just as long as it doesn't suck like the BMW version, where you still have to stick the key into the dash AND push a button -- wtf is the point?! Use real RF technology and let me keep the fob in my pocket. It's also good for automatically locking your doors when you walk away, or unlocking them when you get really close. Also you can identify driver preset settings (seat position, mirrors, etc) based on the RF fob identification. Does it drain battery? Yes, a tiny bit, because the car is constantly sending out a heartbeat to identify the fobs, even while parked and turned off. There should be ways to disable this via the DIC or MyLink for when you park the car for the winter. For the driving season, where you might be driving every day/other day/few days, it will never drain the battery. |

There are gonna be headaches on both sides. I was closing my car door yesterday and scratched the trim because I had the keys in my hand, facing out. Duh!!

That sucks, but couldn't this same scenario happen with other objects in the hand or rings if one is not careful? I don't really see how you can blame the lack of push button start for this type of accident.
