Air to Air vs. Air to Water, S'Charger vs. Turbo

I've been looking around quite a bit online and I have noticed something that is seemingly unexplained, and I was wondering if one of you guys could help enlighten me. I noticed that the vast majority of turbo kits were air to air intercooled where as the superchargers were more often then not air to water cooled. I was wondering why that is? It was my understanding that air to air was less efficient, but air to water would become heat soaked after multiple hard pulls and be useless, can anyone shed some light on this for me? Thanks

It's quite simple. All the PD blowers replace the intake and fill the valley with their lower manifold. Thus they use a heat exchanger in the front of the car that cools the water/coolant that runs to the i/c in the valley. Water to air i/c.

Turbos do not replace the intake so they use a air to air i/c.

Centrifugal superchargers go both ways, lol. Some use air to air while other can use water to air.

Air to water is better for race applications because it has a greater cooling effect, but the lesser maintenance of the air to air makes it better for a street application.

The above isn't true for PD blowers, because they will always use an air to water.
