What is a cam? What does it do? Ive heard a cammed car before and it sounds good, is this all you need?

The camshaft rotates at half the speed of the crank, it has lobes through out the shaft for each cylinder, the lobes have lifters that ride on them, the lifters are connected to the pushrods, pushrods push the rockers which then open the intake and exhaust valves. A cammed vehicle is just a motor with a camshaft with better than stock specs.
